Fund that is to be hung in the Fairview Clubhouse. This was for the money
donated towards the Shelter at Fairview.
Laura said she had talked with Jim McGarvin yesterday and he was to get
with Tom at City Hall about the Roof and Raingutters at Fairview.
According to Gordy the plans are to take care of this as soon as possible.
Gordy reported on the report from Larry Gilhuly regarding the problems
at Purple Sage, the biggest problem is the Irrgstion system. This is
very expensive
Gordy said he has a Spiker in the budget for this Fall.
Gordy said some of the cart paths should have curbs so as to keep carts
away from greens.
Gordy said this past winter was the first time that we have had any
problem with the extreme cold weather doing damage to the greens.
He said they do make Turf Covers that cost about $1000. each.
Kris Inouye asked how do the Sun Valley Courses survive, this is because
they get more snow and it protects the greens.
Rick Sweaney was very pleased with the report and thought this was the
most positive thing that has happened in a long time.
Gordy said he had planned on putting sprinklers in the rough on #4 but
due to the cold winter he had to replace so many broken heads that it
used all his sprinklers.
The Board decided that it would be best to contact an Architect that
was listed on the report and the nearest one was in Kenniwick Washington.
Gordy was instructed to get a letter off today and see what it would
cost etc.
The Board feels that if this can be done in several phases we should
try to get started next year. We should know what to expect after the
Architect gives his report.
Motion made by Don Tolley, seconded by Shirley Akagi to contact Archiect
motion carried.
Gordy explained that with this new Enterprise deai that we will have to
pay for asphalt etc to finish the cart paths at Purple Sage.
Gordy said the window for Fairview has been on order for the past month
it should be installed any day now.
Also the Ball Washers as well as Trash Cans are on order.
Laura said she had a complaint from Del Jones 9/6/91 on the men's
outdoor restrooms.
Gordy said they are cleaned Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
Board asked Gordy if they could be hosed off everyday, Gordy said he
would see that they are taken care of and next year he would have more
help and that would take care of all the extra things as keeping the
restrooms clean, enpty trash cans etc.
Laura said she had a complaint from Scott Holloway 9/7/91 about the
condition of the course for the Labor Day Tournament everyone else thought
the course was in great shape .
Bill Moad said the greens were hard but not in bad shape.
John Watson said he runs the kids off the #1 pond all the time as they
go swimming in there after golf balls.
Laura said there used tc}be a sign up because this is a liability to the
City if something happened to any of those kids.
Gordy was asked to put some type of sign up for players that get mixed up
finding #8 green , seems they get off #7 and head for #10.
Bill Moad mentioned that the bridge on #9 needs to be replaced.
Bill also mentioned that the tee markers and pin placements had not been
moved on Sunday ( Glenn Rushlan dtd move them) Checked after meeting)
Bill thought the Fairways were a little long Sunday. Gordy said no doubt
the mowers are getting a little dull.
Shirley said on #9 right side of sand trap there is a big hole and it is
covered with grass that she stepped in it but someone could really hurt
themself.( Laura had Glenn take care of this by 11:00 a.m.9/10/91)
John Watson handed Laura the Trail Fee list we still have to get a lit
from Troy.
John said he and Troy had met with the Elks and they have worked it out
where the Elks are only goimg to have a one day tournament and it will
not be State. They will call for tee times so there won't be any green
fees for season ticket holders as they will be playing regular Saturday
golf not as a tournament.
John said the Byrle Morse Tournament has been set up for October 19/91.
Laura asked Jim Guy to work with John , Shirley & Bill on this.
They all have a copy of the guidelines to be followed.
Kris Inouye asked about the markers on the Fairways that they are hard
to see. Gordy said he had sprayed all of them.
We still have a problem with carts getting too close to the greens.
John had suggested to paint white lines or burn a narrow line.
Gordy thought it would be best to paint the white lines starting next
year ana see how expensive that runs.
Troy said the 20th is when the schools have the cross country run at
Fairview starting at 4:00 p.m.-4:30 the runners stay on the outside of
Fairways. Start on #4 and finish on #4. Course closed for that time.
• Bill Moad asked if a cart path could be extended all the way to the
• #1 tee box that way they won't have to trim or mow. Gordy said when
+ Dennis comes out to finish the paths that they will look into this.
Rick Sweaney asked Gordy about Roger one of the men that works at
Purple Sage that he seems to be rude to the golfers if he is working
around the greens that he just continues while they are trying to putt
out, etc. Gordy said he would have a talk with him.
Rick Sweaney said he has been on the Board for 11 years and that even
though his term is up at the end of the year he was submitting his
resignation effective today.
He felt that alot has been done while he has been on the board but alo
there are several projects that need to be done.Rick said he enjoyed
working on the board.
Don Tolley said the piece of land behind the Odd Fellows Hall is city
roperty, so if the golf board wrote a letter to the Mayor and City
Council stating that the Golf Board would like this property for
additional cart storage , unloading carts, parking etc.
Letter attached that was given to Mayor ( 9/10/91) 10:30 a.m.)
Motion made by Don Tolley seconded by Jim Guy. Motion carried.
Don also explained that the City Attorney is working on the City Code
as to what authority the Board has etc.
Also that there are a few minor changes in the contracts.
Laura said that in the copy of the request for a grant there are several
items that are listed including storage at Fairview.
Also that Harrison Street is now open for more parking at Fairview.

TO: The Mayor and Members of the City Council
FR: The Caldwell Golf Board
Dear Mayor,
At the Golf Board Meeting of September 10, 1991, a discussion was
held xegarding the property owned by the City located immediately
behind the Odd Fellow's Museum on Tenth and Grant.
This property with the addition of a small parcel of land owned
by the Odd Fellows and the vacation of a street right of way
between the two parcels would fit very well in the Golf Board's
long range plan of increased parking, cart storage, or golf cart
unloading areas that are so badly needed at Fairview.
We would appreciate your help and the Council's help in the
possible negotiations and feasibility of it's use of this land
use for Fairview Golf Course in the future.
Sincerely,
