He had instructed the vice chairman Shirtey Akagi that if anything of importance came up she could call a meeting but nothing came up so no meeting was called. Chairman Cooper introduced Shirle board p and y wl t t ke he place of t Kor ne Ladies Association representative to the Sword. Cooper introduced the board to Richard Spengler, the owner of Golf Southwest Idaho which is a publication that features al! th he If co The S board t had st p aced a an gives all the pertinent informaton about t r ♦ advertisement in this publication last year and Mr. Spengier wants the board to renew the ad for this year. Mr. Spengler told the board about the improvements that have been made for this year and explained why the advertising rates are a little higher. Cooper thanked Spengler for his presentation and told him the board would decide about the ad and that Shirley Akagi would let him know the decision. Spengler then left the meeting. The members of the board discussed the pros and cons of the Golf Southwest Idaho brochure. It was agreed that the publication had been appreciated by the public and that all copies had been taken and used. A discussion followed on whether to take a full page or a half page ad. It was moved by Loraine Navis and seconded by Larry Rick that we buy a half page ad in Golf Idaho Southwest just like we had last year. The motion passed unanimously. Shirley Akagi said she would notify Mr. Spengler of this decision. Chairman Cooper said that Mayor Winder asked that the board be told that President Clinton had signed Volunteer Protection legislation absolving volunteers of liability if they perform a negligent act. It does not however protect them from a criminal act. A discussion was held on the map that Bob Bushnell had given the city showing the two fairways going through his property. These fairways would give the access to the Hanson and Machen properties to the south which the city has purchased to be used for a new gotf course. Mr., Bushnell wou(d like to have a commitment from the city on the exact location of those two fairways so he can continue with his development plans. After a lengthy discussion of the many issues involved in access across the Bushnell property it was decided that what was needed is a golf course architect to do a preliminary 18 hole routing plan for the course. If this were done then it could be seen where the two fairways access the Bushnell property should be located. Cooper said he would bring this to the attention of the mayor and Mr. Bushnell. (II) REPORT FROM JOHN WATSON John reported that that play at Purple Sage had been great. John said the State Chefs and Culinarians Association want to have a tournament next year on a Sunday in August or September. It would be about 18 teams with a shotgun start. It would mean closing the tee from about 7:30 until 14:00. John said that he didn't think August or September were good times to have this event. The board told John to see if he could get them to select a time when the course wasn't so busy. John said he would try to work something out with them. (Illj REPORT FROM LENNY STROUP Lenny asked when the parking lot would be built now that the house was gone from the corner on 9th and Grant. Gordy Crockett said that Woody's was supposed to r r be cutting the trees down right away. Gordy said then they would fill the hole and begin making the parking lot. Gordy said the lot should be able to hold about 40 cars. Lenny said play had been great at Fairview this summer and fall. (IV) REPORT FROM GORDY CROCKETT Gordy said they had blown the irrigation system out a Purple Sage to get it ready for winter. They are also picking up the leaves. The members of the board complimented Gordy on the widening of the cart path on the #1 tee at Purple Sage. (V) NEW BUSINESS Shirley Humphrey asked if it would all right to have the Ladies Association Christmas party at the Purple Sage club house. John said that he would be glad to open the clubhouse and get the heat turned up if the ladies wanted to have their party at Purple Sage. Cooper asked the board if the wanted to close Purple Sage again in December and January, John said he would have no problem keeping the course open as long as he was compensated. After some discussion it was the consensus of the board that Purple Sage should be closed for December and January. Cooper told the board that this would be the Iast meeting until the January 1998 meeting. Cooper thanked all the board members for their hard work for the gol# community of Caldwel(, He especially thanked Korinne Sword and Bob Burns who would not be on the board next year because of term expirations.
