(1) CHAfRMAN'S REPORT A discussion was held on changing the meeting day from Tuesday to Wednesday. Shirley Akagi said it would be better for her and Korinne because ladies play on Tuesday mornings at Fairview. It was the consensus that Wednesday would be better. Cooper said the July meeting would be on Wednesday. Cooper said Lenny Stroup would like to give his report first because he had junior golf business this morning at Fairview. (1) REPORT FROM LENNY STROUP Lenny said that the Junior Golf program was going great this year. Record numbers of kids are participating in the iessons. Lenny reported that we now have marshalls seven days a week during peak hours and that this has really helped to improve the quality of play at Fairview. He said marshals had caught several people sneaking onto the course without paying green fees. Lenny said the couples event on the 3rd Thursday of each month is going good, and that a barbecue grill is realiy needed. Lenny said that play has been excellent. It was moved by Pete Cowles and seconded by Shirley Akagi that we proceed with getting a barbecue griil at Fairview. The motion passed unanimousiy. (III ) REPORT FROM JOHN WATS O N John reports that play at Purple Sage has never been better. John said he had a request for a smaii tournament of about 50 players to be held on a Saturday in October. John says that play slows down alot in October and this might help our play. This small group would not close the course. The board toid John to go ahead and proceed with this event. (IV) REPORT FROM GORDY CROCKETT Absent...no report (V) NEW BUSINESS Cooper read an item written by the editor of the Press Tribune newspaper to the Board "I like to play Caldwell's Purple Sage Golf eourse. It's challenging (more so to me than most) but I was surprised to learn the City doesn't allow the use of credit cards there. Not exactly customer friendly...not to mention the last sales in the pro shop. Would be a smart move to change that." Cooper said hat the board has already made the recommendation to the city council that we start taking credit cards in 1998. Bob Burns reported to the board that he had talked to Andersen Signs about a biliboard to advertise our golf courses. They can put signs on commercial property but if a sign is to be put on the freeway you have to go through the State Department of Transportation. They would have to have a written request for the sign. Loraine Navis reported that we will have to go through the State Highway Department if we want a sign on state highways 44 and 30. It would cost $356.00 for signs and they install. John Watson said we already have directional signs from the freeway to Purple Sage. Pete Cowles said that the city council could probably work with the highway department on the signs. It was discussed by the board that maybe we don't need signs because our play has increased so much that the expense of signs is nat necessary. r . Korinne Sword reported that the ladies association is concerned with the plumbing in the rest rooms at Purple Sage. She said she has talked with Gordy Crockett and he is aware of the problems. He says the problem is with the old pipe. Korinne also feels that the people who rent the basement in the ctub house have not been cleaning the area properly and leaving a mess. It was decided to charge a deposit along with the rent and ifi the room is not cleaned satisfactorily the deposit will not be returned and wili be used to hire a cieaning service to clean the room. Loraine Navis says she has received complaints about children under 6 years of age being ailowed on Purple Sage. John Watson said that they try to enforce the under 6 rule very strictly and he will remind his people to watch carefully for any offenders. As there was no more business, the meeting was adjourned. r ... { &a° . p^- . `„ . a R C/"
