Chairman Cooper called the meeting to order and apologized to the board for not
having copies of the minutes for the march meeting. Cooper then read the minutes of
the March meeting to the board.
( i) CHH 1 RMAN'S REPORT
Cooper said that Shirley Akagi had been approached by a Mr. Clint Adams aboUf
the possibility of having a charity golf tournament at Purple Sage to help the Benoit
family with medical expenses. Shirley said she told him to attend this meeting and .
present his proposal to the board. John Watson said Mr. Adams told him that he had
made arrangements to hold his event at River Bend. Cooper said he was glad he had
found a place for his tourney.
. Cooper then told the board that the City Council would like to have any fee
adjustments be in to them by the 1 ST of June. Mr. Cooper asked the board for
discussion on fee increases for 1998.
A discussion was held on the issue of putting credit card procedures at our courses.
Everyone agrees that this needs to be done. It was agreed that the smail discount fee
to the credit card bank would more than be offset by additional business because it
would easier for many people to buy season tickets if they couid use the deferred
payment by using credit cards. It was moved by Dave Paulsen and seconded by
Loraine Navis that we recommend to the City Council that we establish a credit card
system at Fairview and Purple Sage in 1998. The motion passed unanimously.
Cooper read the 1997 Golf fees to the board. A discussion followed on the fee
schedule. It was generaily agreed that our greens fees are competitive with the other
courses and our season tickets are the best value in the Valley. A long discusslon
followed on the pros and cons of raising the fees. Bill Moad felt a raise
was needed because of the new financiai obligations of the irrigation system and land
purchases. Lenny Stroup said he thought the fees at Fairview should remain the
same to stay competitive with other 9 hole courses in the valiey. It was moved by Dave
Paulsen and seconded by Pete Cowies that we raise green fees at Purple Sage to
$13.00 for 18 holes on weekdays and $15.00 for 18 holes on weekends and holidays.
We will will collect sales tax on all other fees where applicable. The motion passed
unanimously.
Loraine Navis reported that the people who were originally going to take the Hurst
building from Fairview had backed out, but that a new person was going to take it.
(11} REPORT fROM JONN WATSON
John Watson reported that the play at Purple Sage had really been good in March.
John said that they had received many compliments on how great the course is this
year.
(I I I) REPORT FROM LENNY STROUP
Lenny reports that play at Fairview also has been great. Lenny said he had a
request from Jefferson Jr. High to use the course for their golf team. Lenny said
because of our low season ticket price that kids were coming from all over the valley to
play at Fairview. The board told Lenny to tell Jefferson Jr. High they could use the
course as long as the school pays the $150.00 fee. Lenny said he would work it out
with them.
.
Lenny said that the Ladies Golf Association wanted to use the course on July 7th for
the Treasure Valley Travei team. It was moved by Dave Paulsen and seconded by
Loraine Navis that we let the ladies association use the Fairview course on July 7th for
this event. The motion passed unanimously. Lenny reported that we are still having
problems with children playing on the course and causing problems for the golfers.
(1 U) REPORT FROM GOHDY CROCKETT
Gordy reported on the maintenance projects. Shirley Akagi told Gordy she had
heard many compliments on the excellent condition of the course.
