Chairman Cooper cailed the meeting to order.
(1) CHAIRMANS REPORT
Cooper announced that Mayor Winder would be attending the meeting but wouid be
a little late as he had another rneeting to attend.
Mr. Cooper read a letter fron the Roeky Mountain Section of the PGA complimenting
Gordy Crockett for his efforts in making the Snake River Chapter Match Play
Championships a success. Cooper and the board complimented Gordy for a job well
done.
Cooper then read a{etter from the Rocky Mountain section of the PGA saying that
Lenny Stroup had been named the 1996 Golf Professional of the year. Lenny was
recognized for his ou#standing leadership, strong moral character and high degree of
service to the association and the game of golf. Cooper lamented the fact that Lenny
was not at the meeting to receive his congratulations from the board. Cooper said that
a nice plaque had been given to Lenny and was hanging in the Fairview clubhouse.
Cooper then read a letter he had received from Jack Pearson wMo is manager of
the Caldwell Airport. In this letter Pearson made several observations regarding
Purple Sage Golf Course. These included revamping of the existing restrooms,
building a new rest room between holes 12 and 13, more cart storage by building a
new structure and last a feeling that we should have a minimum dress code. He
doesn't think people should be allowed to play without shirts or in tank tops. A general
discussion followed. It was the general concensus that the restrooms could be
improved but that we do not need any new ones. John Watson said there is no waiting
list for the lower cart storage shed and a short {ist for the newer upper shed. Jackie
Inglis said the sheds are dirty and need cleaning out. A discussion followed about
whether or not we need a dress code. It was decided that shirts should be required
and a sign put up in the club house to that effect.
Mayor Winder had now entered the mee#ing and was introduced by Chairman Cooper.
Mayor Winder told the board about City of Caldwell Employee Benefits. He said the
City Council had for several years had a poffcy in effect that did not allow free golf
passes for city employees Mayor Winder said he had approached the Council with the
proposition that theity employees and golf board members be given golf passes as a
reward for their work on behalf of the City of Caldwell, He said the concensus of the
Council seemed to be tha# #he city employees should have some consideration but not
the golf board members. Winder said that because they had a policr in place of no free
passes, he suggested to the council that perhaps a reduced fee such as $50.00 for a
pass might be the way to go. Mayor Winder said that if the Golf Board members
agreed that this would be a good policy for city employees he would like them to pass
a resolution to this effect. Jackie Inglis asked the Mayor if this fee would just be for the
employee and not the whole family. Winder answered that it would be for the
employee only and if the employee wanted to add their spouse or family they would
have to pay the add-on fee. After a short discussion it was moved by Loraine Navis
and seconded by Jackie Inglis that the city allow the employees to buy a season golf
pass for $50.00 (fifty dollars) . The motion passed unanimously.
Mr. Cooper told the board that Carole Walden had sent him two packets with over 300
signatures of area golfers who wished to put forth their support for Gordy Crockett and
his work force at Purple Sage Gof Course. Mr. Cooper said he had copies made of
these petitions and had send them on to Mayor Winder and the City Council. Mr. -
Cooper complimented Gordy on the show of support from the golfers who play at
Purple Sage.
2) Report from John Watson
Watson asked what the status of the move to eollect sales tax on the golf fees.
Cooper told watson that the City Council had rejected the sales tax fee increase
because it did not get submitted in time for the new budget. This means that the golf
#ees for 1997 will remain the same as they were for 1996. Jerry Langan, the council
representative to the board, said that if the board wants to raise the dues for 1998 they
should get their recommendation to the council by June. The council also rejected the
Boards approval of the plan to start accepting credit cards at the golf course. This is
also a budget item..John Watson told the board he would like to cover a couple of the
windows on the east side of the clubhouse with slatwall. This would give him some
additional space to display his merchandise. A short discussion followed. It was
moved by Shirley Akagi and seconded by Loraine Navis to let John Watson do this
renovation. The motion passed unanimously.
3) Lenny Stroup- absent
4) Report from Gordy Crockett
Gordy said they were doing some over-seeding, also working on picking up
leaves and general fall cleanup.
5) NEW BUSINESS
Shirley Akagi reported on the progress of the Golf South Idaho brochure. Shirley
explained to the board how the ad would look. It was suggested to Shirley that we put
the green fees and the season ticket rates in the ad. Chairman Cooper thanked
Shirley for her work on this project. Jackie Inglis introduces Korinne Sword, the new
womens association president, to the board. She will take Jackies place on the board
for 1997.
Cooper said the board would not meet in December. Mr Cooper thanked the members
of the board for their work in 1996. Mr. Cooper listed some fo the things that had been
done this year; The purchasing of the Hanson and Machen properties, and installation
of the new irrigation system at Purple Sage.
