I. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
Mr. Cooper called the meeting to order. Mr. Langan, the Councii
Representative on the Board, gave Mr. Cooper a letter from Leroy Inglis and asked him
to read it to the Board. The letter stated that Inglis would like to lease the small parcel
of land along Highway 30 that is not being used by the golf course. The property is
currently being leased on a yearly basis for agriculture. Inglis would like a long term
lease (99 year) for the purpose of developing the area with attractive townhouse and
condominium units.
After a lengthy discussion, it was the consensus of the Board that the City
should give serious consideration to the Inglis proposal. The Board feels that this land
will never be used as part of the golf course and attractive residential development
would increase the play at Purple Sage.
Mr. Cooper informed the Board that the Hurst property at 9th and Logan, which
had been offered to the City for $84,900, had been reduced to $82,900. In the
discussion that followed, it was felt by all Board members that it is important for the golf
course to acquire this property.
Mr. Stroup talked to the Board about some of the possible uses for this land. He
felt that an off street parking lot would be a tremendous asset. All parking at Fairview
is now done on the street and the area gets really clogged up on busy days. Another
possibility would be for a new clubhouse sometime in the future. The old clubhouse is
becoming pretty run down and inadequate.
A motion was made by Bob Burns and seconded by Shirley Akagi that the
Board recommend to the Mayor and City Council that the City purchase the Hurst
property for $82,900. The motion passed unanimously. Loraine Navis abstained from
voting because of a possible conflict of interest.
Mr. Cooper informed the Board that be had been contacted by Richard
Rosenberry, an attorney representing John Hanson, that Hanson's 80 acre farm south
of Purple Sage is for sale and they wondered if the City would be interested. After
discussing this issue, the Board felt they should pursue this further.
Mr. Cooper said he would arrange a meeting with Hanson, Rosenberry and the
Mayar to discuss the proposal and he would report back to the Board.
II. REPORT FROM JOHN WATSON
Mr. Watson asked the Board if it would be possible during the new irrigation
construction on weekdays, when they had a hole or two closed, if we could offer a
discounted price. The Board this was only fair to the players. A greens fee of $10.00
was settled on as a fair price. John said he thought this would help keep play going
during the construction.
Watson thanked the Board for their decision to extend his contract. He said it
meant a lot to him to have this job security and to know that the Board had confidence
in his ability to manage Purple Sage Golf Course.

III. REPORT FROM LENNY STROUP
Mr. Stroup reported to the Board the incident of the player who wanted a refund
for his son who did not finish playing the course because he got tired after a few holes.
Mr. Stroup was not there at this time and the matter was handled by his wife. When
the man was informed by Mrs. Stroup that refunds were usually given in the form of
rain checks, he became irate and left. He subsequently wrote a letter to the local
paper saying he had been treated badly by Fairview Golf Course.
Mr. Stroup said he regretted the unfortunate incident and had he been there at
the time, he possibly could have handled it in a better way. He said they would try not
to get into this type of situation again.
IV. REPORT FROM GORDY CROCKETT
Gordy reported that the work on the new irrigation system was proceeding slow
but sure. The greens on both courses are being sanded and punched. He said
someone had driven a vehicle on the fairways at Purple Sage and had done quite a
bit of damage.
Mr. Cooper asked Gordy to get the weeds cut down along the curb on 10th
Street at the Fairview course.
V. NEW BUSINESS
Shirley Akagi brought up the question of who the course marshals answer to.
ne of the marshals had told Shirley he was confused as to whom he should report.
John Watson said they always reported to him and he couldn't understand why there
would be any confusion. He said he would talk to the people doing the rarshaling
and address any problems they had.
Georgia Hersh reported that the money taken in by the Ladies Gold Asocin _
during the Labor Day tournament had been given to the West One Bank Trr
Schalarship Fund.
Mee adjourned at 9:15 am
