Old Business
1. 10 Ave. South of Ustick Survey re-done
Engineering performed a 2" survey at 10 Ave south of Ustick to determine if a speed
limit reduction was in order. ."The study shows an 85 percentile speed of 45 mph per
hour and an average speed of 39 mph." The Engineers recommendation was for the
speed limit to remain at 45mph. Steve Hasson has met and discussed the results with
Mr. Paul Elridge. The motion was made and the Traffic Commission agreed
unanimously to accept the study. The speed limit will remain at 45mph.
2. Request for red curb painting in front of Mailbox (Refer to meeting agenda 06-07-04)
The Caldwell Post Office had experienced problems delivering mail to 909 Dearborn due
to Home Federal employees parking in front of the mail receptacle. The Post Office
requested the City paint the curbing red in front of the residences mail receptacle to
prevent parking. After site observation by members of the Traffic Committee, the request
was re-visited. Their concern was this becoming a contagious request without end. After
discussion of the situation the motion was made and the Traffic Commission agreed
unanimously to recommend denial of the request.
Action: Mayor assigned to provide written response to the Postal Service.
New Business
• 1. Traffic Light Timing - Chicago onto 10th.
The City received multiple calls regarding the timing of the light in the east bound Chicago
turn lane, turning left on to 10 �Drivers felt it was unreasonably short. Steve Hasson noted
the previously discussed desire to direct traffic downtown. Gordon Law suggested the
following 3 options: install a Permissive Green light, ignore the complaint, or "steal" green
time from other lights at the intersection. The Traffic Commission agreed unanimously to
"steal" green time from other lights at the intersection.
Action: Engineering to implement.
2. Stop sign request at Missoula Way and College
A concerned citizen wrote the Commission requesting a stop sign at the T-section of
Missoula Way and College. Her concern being the safety of children playing in the area and
the rate of speed at which drivers pass through the T-section. Chief Sobba suggested
sending an officer out to visit the citizen and offer to set up the Radar Trailer. The Traffic
Commission agreed unanimously. Action: Chief Sobba
This concluded the meeting and the meeting was adjourned.
The next Traffic Commission meeting is scheduled for August 2" at 10:30 am
