Request for `Speed Bumps' and "Children at Play" signage in Brookfield Subdivision (Dennis Downey) Mr. Downey made the above request on behalf of himself and Brookfield subdivision. The motion was made and the Traffic Commission recommended unanimously to have Chief Wendelsdorf send a letter to Mr. Downey conveying the City's policy regarding speed bumps and explaining their effect on emergency vehicles. It was also noted Brookfield streets carry only Brookfield traffic, which suggests a`neighborhood meeting' as a more affective solution. In addition Chief WendelsdorF would also send a copy of the sign policy to Mr. Downey explaining that City procedure is for the subdivision to purchase signs for the City to install and that the subdivision is also responsible for obtaining written permission from the property owner where the sign will be placed. ;,i+ ief VeflItF Communicate actions of the Commission to Mr. Downey • ,ci ,"M1rs.:- Provide Chief Wendelsdorf with a copy of the City sign policy. 2. Request for Crosswalks at Ustick Road and Santa Anna —(Brown Bus Company) The above request was made by Brad Carpenter of Brown Bus Company in the interest of I safety for students walking to and from Sage Valley school. The Traffic Commission I concluded that installing cross-walks at uncontrolled intersections creates a sense of false , safety in pedestrians, and that crosswalks generally should not be installed until signalization is implemented. The motion was made and Traffic Commission agreed unanimously to forward a copy of the correspondence received from Brown Bus Company to Vallivue School District along with a letter indicating the City's willingness to work with the School district on either of the following solutions: • The City install a crosswalk and signage if the School District provides crossing guards; or • The School District install a preemptive pedestrian signal and the City would install a crosswalk and signage.
