Present: Chairman Larry Osgood, Chief Allgood, Chief Wendelsdorf, Mayor Nancolas, Brent Orton, Brian Billingsley Secretary: Tammy Frans Old Business - 1. Previous Meeting Notes 12-07-2009 Request for °C�osswa/ks"at Montana and A/der and a�F/ashing Schoo/sign° (Ron Fisse) Recent completion of the new Washington Elementary School has significantly increased traffic flow and the number of e%mentary age pedestrians in the area. Mr. Fisse requests attention to the intersection of Montana A venue and Alder Street. There are currently no crosswalks, sidewalk or curb and gutter on that section of Montana A venue near Alder Street. lt is agreed by the Tra�c Commission that further in vestigation is needed including consideration of a new crossing techno%gy known as a"HAWK" crossing. The motion was made and TC agreed unanimously to have multiple members of the Commission make site visits to the area and report back at the next meeting, R ��� _�..�� ��� - � � , �- Send co��espondence to M� Fisse expressing Tra�c Commissions decision. , �:_ � �- � . ���,x. ° Peiform site visits and �eport findings at next meeting. Current Meeting Notes 01-04-2010 Site visit findings and follow-up discussion Geographic factors noted are: (see attached exhibits) • Intersection Offset � Detached sidewalk on the South side of Alder Street • No sidewalks on all 4 legs Long-term Geographic factors to consider: (see attached exhibits) • The newly open section of Alder Street is to become a"Blvd" like setting which will eliminate the currently offset intersection. Suggested Long Term Solutions: • Install H.A.W.K. Crosswalk (Overhead Crosswalk) Estimated cost 20K to 25K • Illuminated Crosswalk at Spruce Street and Linden Street • Extend 25 mph Speed limit from Linden Street to Spruce Street on Montana Avenue Suggested Immediate Action: � Extend existing Syringa School Zone past Alder Street to the South 100' • Reduce Speed limit on Montana Avenue to 30 mph from Linden Street to Larch Street The motion was made and TC agreed unanimously to implement the above suggested "Immediate Actions" and continue to pursue the HAWK crosswalk as a long term solution. �` L �' Request Street Department implements ° lmmediate Action" items e `` Meet with Roger Quarles, Caldwell School Superintendent to discuss possible partnership and cost sharing solutions New Business There was no °Nev�' business in January The next Traffic Commission meeting is scheduled for February 1st at 10:30 am
