Old Business 1. Request for "Directional Signs" for the downtown museum and Senior Center (Bob Sobba) Regarding directional signs to the museum, Chief Allgood is hesitant from the law enforcement perspective. The Commission agreed to table the request pending additional information. Brian Billingsley agreed to meet further with Councilman Sobba on the matter. 5-03-2010 The TC noted that the museum is a private not public facility. The item was continued until Brian could speak with Councilman Sobba. 6-07-2010 ' , Meet with Councilman Sobba to discuss further. New Business 1. Request for School signage change from "When Children Present" to `Between the hours of 7:00 and 4:00 (Chief Allgood) Documents regarding school zone signage and decisions from previous TC meetings were reviewed and discussed. While it is understood a CPD Officer would prefer the `Between the Hours ofl' signs for reasons of being clearly defensible when ticketing, other points to consider were discussed. Those points being: • It would be expensive to change out all existing signage • Signage was changed out in Oct 2005 when the TC made the recommendation to Council to make school zone signage uniformly "When Children are present" • The TC decision to recommend the uniform change was based on the opinion that "When Children are Present" covers safety at all times ie: before school programs (breakfast), after school events, evening events, summer months, etc. • School times can and do change from year to year. It would be costly to update signage to reflect changes as they occur. Brian Billingsley recommended that the discussion be postponed until Chief Allgood could be present to speak on behalf of the CPD. 2. Request by Traffic Commission for Gordon Reed to become a designated member of the Traffic Commission (TC Members) Gordon Reed is the Superintendent of the Caldwell Street Department. It is the opinion of the Traffic Commission that Gordon Reed would be beneficial to the Commission for the following reasons • It would be easier to make quorum • The Street department carry's out the majority of tasks assigned by the TC • Gordon has been with the Street department a number of years and knows a lot of the history of previous TC decisions • Gordon Reed is highly knowledgeable ofthe MUTCD Guide A motion was made and the Traffic Commission agreed unanimously to recommend Gordon Reed as designee to the Traffic Commission in the Mayors absence. The next Traffic Commission meeting is scheduled for July Sth, 2010 at 10:30am. Meeting to be held at 621 Cleveland, Brent Orton's office.
