Date: September 17, 2001
From: Curt Hawkins, Airport Manager
Re: Regular September, 2001 Commission Meeting
Those present were: Airport Mgr., Curt Hawkins, Commission Chairman: Dr. Roy
McLaughlin, Liaison from the City Council: Mile Gable, Commission members: Dean
Dishman, Bob McGee, Phil Fouts & Max Barker.
Chairman Dr. Roy McLaughlin called the meeting to order at 12:01 PM.
Agenda Items discussed were;
• Now that Lee Rice is no longer associated with the airport on a daily basis we need to
suggest a new assistant airport manager. Curt is to put a list together of willing
people who he thinks would do a satisfaetorily job. This position includes the
• plowing of snow and being available if Curt is gone on vacation.
Leo Gilbride read a letter he had already submitted to City Engineering about his
plans to lease the old Cady Building. Dr. McGlaughlin felt the money to install a
future fire sprinkler system needs to be put into escrow to make sure funds are
available when it becomes mandatory to install a sprinkler system. A discussion
followed with some thinking the building should be appraised and sold so that every
few years we are not sitting with a vacant building trying to find another tenant. Max
Barker is going to investigate obtaining an appraisal for the building.
• Maa Barker explained how the final building plans came together for Andy Testman
to build a new aviation maintenance center to the North West of Max's new building.
• Airport security - Recently we have had thefts from airplanes and several hangar
break-ins. Two different times Curt has requested extra patrol. Curt is to check with
the Caldwell Police to find out if this is happening and if it is, their schedule of patrol.
We will also change the gates to a new code.
• About once a month Curt gets a call from the Civil Air Patrol that an ELT signal is
emitting from one of our hangars. Many times he is unable to contact the hangar
owner or a person renting from the owner do to an outdated phone number. Curt will
contact each hangar owner and stress the importance of having updated contact
• information on file.

i • The lease signed by Holbrook Maslin February 1, 2000 was discussed as it is beyond
the one year time limit for him to complete construction on his building. Curt is to
write a letter to Holbrook and advise him the Commission wants to see some positive
• building action within ninety days.
• Jason Ritchie from Toothman Ortin brought us up to date on the new construction
project. Jason said we are slightly ahead of schedule for completion by September
26, 2001. Paving of the taxiways is scheduled for Friday September 21 St.
• Just prior to closing the meeting Dean Dishman spoke favorably about the Leo
Gilbride lease of the City's building; "we need someone to rent this building, as an
occupied building is worth more than an unoccupied building whether to rent or to
sell."
Meeting adjourned at 1:08 PM
