ORDINANCE.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and the Council of the City of
Caldwell:
Section 1. That Section' Ordinance No. 279 as amended by
Sections 1 and 2 of Ordinance No. 317 be and the same is hereby amended
to read as follows:
Section 3. The officers, members and employees of the fire
department of the city of Caldwell shall be as follows;
(1) Chief of the fire department
(2) One assistant chief-of the fire department
(3) One Senior captain of the fire department
(4) One junior captain of the fire department
(5) One enSineer of the fire department

(6) One assistan of the fire department
(7) Such hoseTzan as the needs of the department
shall call for
(�) Eight call men of the fire department.
The chief of the fire department shall be appointed by the Idayor
-jith the advice and consent of the Council. 1,11 other officers and
employees of the fire department and the ei_cht call men shall be ap-
pointed by the Mayor with the advice anal consent of the Council upon
the recommendation of the chief of the fire department. No person shall
be eliible for the appointment of senior captain or junior captain of
the fire department who is not at the time of his appointment an em-
ployee of the department on regular full time duty.
The care and. custody of the city hall will be in charge of the
chief of the fire department and the janitor vork shall be performed
by the members of the fir= department under the direction of the chief
of the fire department.
The call mer_ shall serve only in response to fire alarms, during
fires, and fire drills as provided by this code.
Section 2 . That Section 4 of Ordinance No. 279 as amended by
Section 3 of Ordnance No. 317 be and the same is hereby amended to
read as follows:
Section 4. The chief of the fire department shall at all times,
except in case of absence or inability to act, have full charge of the
entire fire department of Cald - well, Idaho, and at all times shall be
subject to such rules as the Mayor and_ Council of Caldwell shall pre-
scribe. It shall be his duty to see that all officers and employees
of the fire department perform the necessary services and that the
department is in continuous efficient arorking service.
At a fire the chief uvill have full charge of the matters per-
taining to the department and all thirCs to be done in or about such
fire, and he shall in case of necessity arising at a fire employ aside
from his regular call mein such other - men as may in his judgement be
necessary for the purpose of extinCuishing the fire.
The chief of the fire. department shall not engave in any other
business or employment, but shall devote all his time to the service
of the department and it shall be his duty at all times, except as
otherwise provided for in Section 7, to be ready without delay to
take char e of the department and assume the management thereof.
It shall be the duty of the chief of the fire department to
make out and submit annual reports to the Mayor and Council of the
condition of the department, and all matters of interest relating
thereto. He shall also report number of fires that have taken place
during the past year, giving the location of, date of and other
particulars of such fires, He shall incorporate in said reports
such suggestions in regard to the government of the fire department
and the efficiency thereof as may in his judgement seem proper and
necessary. After each fire the chief shall make prompt and thorough
investigation of the cause of the fire, the amount of loss and incur -
ante. carried, time of breaking, out, description of building and all
necessary particulars and record. the same in the record book kept for
that purpose in the department.
Section 3. That Section 5 of Ordinance No. 279 as amended by
Section 4 of Ordinance No. 317 be and the same is hereby amended to
read. as follows:
Section 5. No regular employee of the fire department receiving
a regalar monthly salary shall be enuared or employed in any other
occupation.
Section 4. That Section 7 of Ordinance No. 279 as amended by
Section 5 of Ordinance No. 317 be and the same is hereby amended to
read as follows:
Section 7. All officers and members of the fire department
receiving regular monthly, salary shall be entitled to fifteen days
vacation on full pay each year after they have been in the service
of the fire department for a period of one year.
Section 5. That Section 16 of Ordinance No. 279 as added by
Section 1 of Ordinance No. 290 as amended by Section 1 of Ordinance
No. 329 as amended by Sea&ion l of Ordinance No. 334 be and the same
is hereby amended to read as follows:

Section 16. The chief of the fire department is hereby
authorized to call together at least once a month but not more than
twice a month the .call members of the department for fire drill. The
compensation of the call members of the fire department for fire drills
shall be one dollar per drill.
Section 6. That Section 1 of Ordinance No. 456 as amended by
Section 3 of Ordinance PIo. 578 be and the same is hereby amended to
read as follows:
Section 1. The compensation of the officers, - members, and
employees of the fire department shall be as follows;
Chief of the fire department-------------- - - - - -- ;175.00 per month
Senior captain of the fire department ----------- 155.00 per :month
Junior captain of the fire department----- - - - - -- 150.00 per month
Engineer of the fire department----------- - - - - -- 145.00 per month
Assistant enL, of the fire department- - - - - -- 145.00 per month
Hosemen of the fire department------------ - - - - -- 130.00 per month
provided that the compensation of the hosemen shall be increased at
the rate of five dollars per month each -Ycay for continuous service
after the first year for a period of three years so that beEinninG
, Tith the second year of said service such compensation shall be the
sum of one hundred thirty -five (.;,135.00) dollars per month and be-
I . ir_nin frith the third year of such service such compensation_ for
said service shall be the sum of one hundred forty (y140.00) dollars
per month and beginning with the fourth year and thereafter such com-
pensation for said service shall be the sum of one hundred forty -five
($145.00) dollars per month.
Call men when answering fire calls shall receive two and fifty
hundredths ($2.50) dollars for responding to call when called by the
officer in charge of the department and one (;11.00) dollar per hour
or fractional part thereof for time spent in working when called.
If the :Iayor and Council shall so require the chief of the fire
department shall maintain his residence in rooms provided for that pur-
pose in the City Nall, said rooms to be furnished by the city with liSht,
heat, water and electrical ener£,y.
Section 7. That Section. 2 of Ordinance No. 456 as amended by
Section 4 of Ordinance No. 578 and Section 12 of Ordinance 140. 297 as

amended by Section 6 of Ordinance No. 317 as amended by Section 2 of
Ordinance No. 334 and Sections 8 and 9 o Ordinance No. 279 and all
ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same
are hereby repealed.
Section 8. This ordinance will be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval and publication in book form
as provided in Ordinance No. 591.
