ORDINANCE NO. 17A7
AN ORDINANCE TO REPEAL CHAPTER 13, TITLE I, OF THE MUNICIPAL
CODE OF THE CITY OF CALDWELL, STATE OF IDAHO, PERTAINING TO
FIRE CHIEF, AND ADDING A NET1T CHAPTER 13, TITLE I, SECTIONS 1
THROUGH 8 REGARDING FIRE CHIEF: REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES,
RESOLUTIONS, ORDERS OR PARTS THEREOF IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CALDWELL, COUNTY OF CANYON, STATE OF IDAHO:
Section 1. That Chapter 13, Title I, Sections 1 through 3
pertaining to Fire Chief be repealed.
Section 2. That a new Chapter 13, Sections 1 through 8
pertaining to Fire Chief be added to Title I of the Municipal
Code of the City of Caldwell, County of Canyon, Idaho, as
follows:
FIRE CHIEF
1 -13 -1: APPOINTMENT: There is hereby created the position
of Fire Chief, a position which shall be filled by appointment by
the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council.
1 -13 -2: GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible for the
operation, administration and coordination of the Caldwell Fire
Department. Performs other duties as assigned or required by the
position.
1 -13 -3: SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the guidance and
direction of the Mayor.
1 -13 -9: SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises all fulltime and
volunteer personnel of the Department directly or through
subordinate supervisors.
1 -13 -5: EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: (illustrative only) Assures
the proper manning of shifts, responsible for hiring, promotion,
disciplining, and termination of employees. Coordinate with

schools and other agencies for fire prevention training.
Evaluates the effectiveness of the department; maintains records
and prepares reports regarding the activities of the department.
Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of equipment and building.
Acts with full command and police authority while at the scene of

fires or alarms of fires. Prepares the budgets for the
department, including requisitions for purchase of new equipment.
Purchass all department supplies. Provides for the execution of
all applicable departmental and city rules, regulations, policies
and procedures. Provides public relations services. On call 24
hours each day.
1 -13 -6: REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND AFILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, codes, statutes,
ordinances, and standard Fire Department operations. Ability to
supervise, schedule, and coordinate activities of staff and
represent the department effectively. To communicate clearly and
concisely, both orally and in writing. To establish and maintain
effective working relationships and make sound decisions.
1-13-7: ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's
degree and ten years of progressive Fire Department experience OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
1-13-8: NFCESSARY SPFCIAL REQUIRE1 Valid Idaho
driver's license.
Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances
inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.
Section 4. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage, approval, and publication according
to law.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Caldwell this
