Council met in regular session, pursuant to ad,jorment, with Mayor O.H.Turner presiding, Councilmen Ackley, Adams, Boone, and Harrington present, S.Ben Dunlap, Clerk, when the following business was tranacted. t The following bills which had been laid over from last meeting were read and on motion of Boone allowed and warrants ordered drawn on the General Fund as follows: Bob Cavin, Oct. Salary, '91.00 PJ.R.Wilkerson, Premium on Insurance, 95.41 Canyon Abstract & Trust Co., Premium on Insurance, 64.40 The personal bond of the American National Bank, as principal and M.J.Devers J.H.FOrbs, M.L.Walker, and A.W.Porter as sureties, insuring the City deposits in the sum of # 20,000.00, and dated November 3, 1913, was read. It was voted upon motion of Boone that the bond be accepted in lieu of the bond given by the said bank under date of May, 5th. 1913, which bond was to be returned to the said bank upon their request. The Clerk reported having this date received six deeds from W.R.Cupp, and that Mr. Cupp had stated that he had found the said deeds smoung other papers belonging to Wm. Cupp, his father, who at one time had been a member of the council, Said deeds conveying to the City of Caldwell right of way for streets purposes through certain property, being executed by the following named parties: Clara Powell, John 11. Groome, and Olive M. Groome, hie wife, Mrs. Martha Moody, Thomas D. Poston and Lizzis Poston, husband and wife, Annie r.Roupe and John P. Hall and Ada V. Hall, husband and wife. It was voted upon motion of Harrington that the clerk be instructed to have the deeds made of record. i A letter was received and read from the Board of Fire Underwriters of the Pacific, dated at Salt Lake City , October 20th. 1913, in which they suggestAertain Improvements for fire protection for this City. Upon motion of Ackley the fire con•.mittee was empowered to secure a location in the northern part of the City and one in the southern part for the purpose of installing hose carts and hose, where they would be easy of access in case of fire. Adams suggested that trap doors be installed in the bridges over Indian creek, so that in case of fire water could be pumped directly from the creek. He stated that by this means an additional supply of water would be available as the city water could still be used because of the great amount of pressure. Re was authorized to have the ma.-ter attended to. The letter from the fire underwriters was discussed and the clerk was instructed to answer the same informing them of our plans for additional fire prot- ection. Parker arrived at this time. Fire Chief Allen took up the question of rubber suits for the fire boys which he stated were badly needed. Re was instructed to gather data on the matter and report at the next meeting, Allen also stated that something should be done about 415 requiring the power companies to shut off the power on their high tension Mires, during a fire. Petition of Wm. B.Alliaon at al for a sidewalk on Kimball Avenue from the foot of Kimball at Canyon Hill to the corner of Kimball and I street was read, and on motion of Boone referred to the Street Committee. Adams stated that a tower or some arrangement was badly needed for the purpose of drying the hose after a fire. He was authorized to investigate the matter and was given power to act, City Attorney Stone stated that the city Council of Emmett had voted to re to Caldwell that porton of Caldwell taxes which had been paid to them through mistake and that they would issue a note to cover the amount. He was instructed to make what arrangements that he could in the matter. Upon motion of Ackley council adjorned until Monday evening, December lel 1913, at 7.30 oclock P.M. City Clark. I. 1
