(AWARD BID FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER) The Mayor stated that this was the date and time set for discussion regarding the awarding of the bid for the Senior Citizens Center. The Mayor recognized Bernie Kavan from Alpha Engineers who in turn introduced Mr. Ralph Aldrich of Snake River Builders who was the lowest bidder for the construction of the Senior Citizens Center. The Mayor opened the discussion by reporting that it was the consensus of opinion of the City Engineer, Councilwoman Williams, and Mr. Kavan that the paving bid should be left in. It was also recommended by Alpha Engineers that the windows should remain, double pane, but instead of plate glass they should be safety glass. This was a building code requirement and was overlooked. Mr. Aldrich stated that he did get a figure for this, but he was not completely satisfied with it. His figure was $1,000 added for the five windows involved. Mr. Aldrich did want to check this figure out as he felt he did not have enough time to be satisfied with it. The Mayor then stated that the big question was concerning the leaving of the seven grid block gray and sealing it similar to the color of the new Library. Mr. Aldrich said that this would be an approximate $2,500 deduction, which he could guarantee., Mr. Aldrich said that he could get an accurate figure, inyolving these two situations by Monday. Discussion followed regarding the construction of the Senior Citizens Center. Councilman Gamboa felt that.the sooner the bid was awarded the better as the weather was of great importance as winter approaches. Mr. Aldrich stated that he could start staking as soon as the bid was awarded. The several changes discussed would be incorporated into the Contract.
