The Mayor requested that everyone stand for the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. The roll of the City Council was called with the following members present: Raymond, Winder, Houchins, and Straight. Absent: Jarboe and Mallea. (APPOINTMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT) Mayor Cowles welcomed everyone to the Special Meeting. The Mayor stated that he would like to make an introduction before proceeding with the recommendation for the Administrative Assistant. He explained that the City went through the process of taking applications for a part -time Airport Manager position. A group of individuals were selected to conduct the interviews and the person selected was well qualified. It was anticipated that he would be a tremendous asset to the Caldwell Industrial Airport. Mayor Cowles then introduced the City's new part-time Manager for the Airport, Mr. Gerald Olson. Mayor Cowles continued stating that the hiring process for the Administrative Assistant has been a lengthy one. He stated that over one hundred and thirty -two resumes were received for this position. The number was narrowed to six who were contacted for interviews. Those assisting on the interview board were: Ron Carter,, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce; Tony Wieczorek, Personnel and Public Relations Director for West Val-ley Medical; Tammy Rice, Personnel Analyst for the City of Boise; Rick Youngblood, First Vice President of First Interstate Bank; Jim Weatherby, Executive Director of the Association of Idaho Cities and the Mayor. The applicants were asked a number of tough questions and an extensive background check was done. Mayor Cowles addressed the City Council stating that it was with great pleasure that he presented to them the name of Teri Brandt of Boise for Caldwell's Administrative Assistant position. The Mayor further stated that Mrs. Brandt demonstrated to him how valuable she will be to the people of this community, to the employees, and to the members of the City Council. Mayor Cowles then requested action from the Council on this recommendation. Councilman Raymond was recognized and stated that he was pleased to support the selection. He did, however, feel it important to explain the absence of two of the Council members. Councilman Jarboe was attending a business meeting in Boise and was unable to get back to Caldwell in time for the meeting. Councilwoman Mallea was ill and unable to attend. Mr. Raymond further said that both of them have been vitally interested in the decision to fund the position and for the process just completed. It was then MOVED by Raymond, SECONDED by Houchins that the City Council accept the recommendation from the Mayor to appoint Teri Brandt as the Administrative Assistant to the City of Caldwell. Roll call vote. Those voting yes: Raymond, Winder, Houchins, and Straight. Those voting no: none. Absent and not voting: Mallea and Jarboe. MOTION CARRIED There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at Took 29 Paae 246 12:10 p.m. The Mayor informed those present that immediately following the meeting, he would introduce Mrs. Brandt to members of the news media. A reception would be held at 4:00 p.m. to give the employees an opportunity to meet her. APROVED AS wri tten THIS 7th DAY OF November 1988.
