The Acting Mayor stated that a group of people representing
several churches in town were sponsoring a Vietnamese Refugee
family and wanted to make a request to the City Council in
regards to this. He recognized Kay Carter who presented the
following request to the City Council:
We are from the Inter- church Refugee Committee which
has representatives from Treasure Valley Christian Church,
Caldwell United Methodist Church, Boone Memorial Presbyterian
Church and Faith Lutheran Church. The purpose of the committee
is to serve as the sponsoring agency for a Vietnamese Refugee
family for the four above - mentioned churches.
We ask the Caldwell City Council to allow the committee to
use the vacant city owned house on Kimball south of Caldwell
Memorial Park as interim housing for such a refugee family.
In exchange for use of the house, the committee agrees to:
1. Have the wiring checked and repaired where necessary.
2. Have heater checked and repaired.
3. Paint, clean, and furnish the house.
4. Assume utility costs during occupancy and maintain the
property.
The Committee proposes that it be allowed to use the house for
a family for three months, rent - -free, and that after that
period of time, if more permanent housing has not been located
and if the City of Caldwell is willing, rental terms could be
negotiated for rent on a month -to-month basis.
