T.! Meeting was called to order by Mayor Dakan.
The poll of the C!..ty Council was caliecz with the
following members present: __ymond, Ozuna, tiancolas,
Simmons, Carpenter, and Houchins. Absent: none.
(PUBLIC HEARING ON THE BUDGET FOR 1993 -9<Lz)
The Mayor explained that the pu__pcse c this me :Ming was
a. - ore I im - -nary Public Hearing on the proposed budget fc-r
19313 -94. This :nearing t , ras riot required since the
official hearing would be or. September 7, 1993. However,
the Council vaanted to give the public an opportunity '�_o
ask questions and receive some background in`'ormatior_
before the Regular Meeting next week

At t :e request of the Mayor, the Administrative /Personnel
Office revie the 'r)udget for the benefit of those in
the aud`.once. Mrs. Ottens explained briefly how properz
dollars are distribu' as well as how Caldwell' s
budget compares to surrounding communities. She further
stated that the major changes in the budget this near
inciude a ten percent increase in the Caldwell Economic
Develop;i funding from $50,000 to $55,000; an average
e_'._ght percent increase in City attorney fees due to an
increase in criminal and civil workloads; a two percent
increase in em-Oloyee salaries; an increase in the Mayor
and Council salaries; an increase in ..ees for
Profess :.oral Services Group; and two and a i <alf new
positions.
Mrs. Cttens also pointed out r1a_jor projects scheduled for
the co=sting year including widening of Marble Front,
I',.linois and Logan Streets; continuation of street and
si. ewalk L.I.D. subsidy to help residents get their: roads
paved or sidewalks installed.; completion of the Air}--ort
Mash,:_ Plan; cons '._:- i.zction of a retaining wall and
landscaping around the Cemetery Mausoleum; new pl.aygrourd
Jaycee Park; rebuild basketball courts at Luh;% Park;
fig _sh Corn , Center Gymr.asium; hegin sprinkler system
at Purple Sacfe Golf Course; and construction of a new
sewe ° - interccsti;or lia in southwest area of town.

was anyone - ,�7ho cared to ask any questions of the Council
at t.nis tine. Pefore recognizing anyone from the
audier:.c:e, the Mayor also discussed briefly some of uhe
ignif'..cant changes in the budget for th.e coming year_
Die's Winder, 2205 East Linden, and Bruce Allcott, the
Fire Chief for the City cf Caldwell were both recogni7ed
by the. Mayor -nd asked several questions pertaining to
the proposed buci..get . The Fire Chief was part_i.culariy
_Liaterested in the direction the funding for th,e Fire
Dep and la..v„ enforcement was going with. the
incr,ased need for those serv.ces_ 'Phi Mayor and several
of the Council Members discussed this with Mr. Allcot "_..
S:Lnce there was n,; one else who cared to address the City
Co : :ri1 concerning the budget, tl - e Mayor declared the
Public Hearing closer.

no further business, the Meeting be adjourned at 7:30
P.m.
