Your Fire and BuildlnL Coranittee desir•, to rel,ort to you the result of their
investigation of the fire protection of the city and tLe infl better fire riFl_ting

With thtg end in view we first took the matter up with the secregary of the
Board of Fire tlnderuriters of tle Pacific at Salt Lae 011.., '?tah, and received from
him an exlression o° his opioiun an to the e°Y( new equilrcent would l- -eve in reducing

from the P.oard of IInderarit.ers your committee makes ;Ye f ol'_owirrL recomr- eadat.ion:
Firsts The city coi.s,eil select a ',rifle combination, mutor driven 'ire

S c•,; d: L. gees ;.,:.d ^'_ '_1e city council publirh a notice asking tr bids
on the afore 'jr: ztp:rarr.ttis, reserving; the ri;;ht to reject any or all bids.
Third: After receiving; the above named bids we recommend that the city
council accept such bid ao, tLo 1:sirc c.it2_ ti:e reservation that the citizens of the
City of Caldwell vote the bonds necessary to the purcl.ase of the said equiprent.
Your coranittee after their ir_vestigation of tl_ rnatter, have come to the
conclusion that 'l-e ;;roso fire insurance premiunm of Caldwell will amount to about
fifty thousand dollars annually, and you will note that according to the communication
from the Poard of Fire Undemrriters a saving; will be made of from ten to fifteen per
cent of these rrerUuna by the ir.stalation of the apparatus. In this case the citizens
of the city would save at the miniruura estimate about five +.Lou.s«nd dollars each year.
If these figures are correct 'here small ba a direct saving of the equipment in less
then two years to say ;rothirg of the saving made by the prevention of "ire losses in
case we had any serious fires, to wLich we are at all times liable. Therefore we
most earn -stly r•eco : ;.end 'la _..,.•e e stel s be to >en toward tie ear,,•ing out of this
