The roll of the Council was called with the following members
present: Dfakan, Carter, McCluskey, Williams, and Banks.
Absent: Gamboa.
(ANNUAL LICENSE FEE REQUEST FOR PUBLIC DANCE - HAROLD CRAVEN)
The Mayor stated that the purpose of this Special Meeting
was to meet with Mr. Harold Craven concerning his request for
an annual license fee for public dances in case he was successful
in purchasing a building for a Youth Center. The Mayor
suggested to the Council that they give consideration to changing
the Ordinance at such time as they were given definite
assurance that the building would be acquired. Both Councilman
Dakan and Councilman McCluskey agreed that this should be the
procedure followed. Some discussion followed with Councilman
Banks bringing out the point that the Amendment to the
Ordinance should read so that there would be some control as
to who could obtain a license under the conditions being
discussed.
Mr. Craven was assured by the City Council that when he had
completed arrangements for the purchase of the building for
this Youth Center, he was to communicate with the Council
again and authorization would be given to the City Attorney
to draw an Amendment to the Ordinance regarding licenses for
public dances.
(REMARKS REGARDING CEMETERY AND SWIMMING POOL)
Councilwoman Williams commented that the roads at the Cemetery
were extremely muddy and asked when the Street Department
was planning to pave them as it was budgeted some time ago.
The Mayor stated that due to the late spring this year they
were so far behind that this just hadn't been done. Councilwoman
Williams also mentioned that block markers have never been
installed at the Cemetery and she thought this had been budgeted
for several years ago. The Mayor stated he would talk with
Mr. Cooper, the Sexton, regarding this.
Councilwoman Williams also said that she had received many
phone calls regarding the closure of the Swimming Pool on the
Fifth and Sixth of July. The Mayor explained that the State
Swimming Meet would be scheduled next year to allow the pool to
be opened late in the afternoon and the evening so the public
would be able to use the pool as well.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at
4:20.
APPROVED AS written THIS 15th DAY OF July - ,.975.
