Council Chambers, City of Caldwell, Monday evening June 16, 1913.
Council met in regular session with Mayor C.L.T'urner Fresiding and Councilmen
Ackley, Boone, Parker, and Staunenberg present, S.Ben Dunlap clerk, when
the following gusiness was transacted .
-he resignation of Cries. Jennie D. 'Hood as member of the Library board was read.
Voted on motion of Boone that the same be accepted.
Councilmen Harrington arrives.
Letter was read from R. Farrar asking that the city deduct from his paving
assessment on lots 1 and 2 block 12 the amount of paving which the Caldwell Traction
Co, used in laying its tract on Arthur street in front of said property.
Voted on motion of Harrington that the matter be refered to the City Attorney.
Following is the estimate prepared Ysy the City Council of the pity of Caldxell, of
the probable amount of money necessary for all purposes to be raised by taxation in
the city dunning the fiscal year begining the first Tuesday in day, 1913, including
the interest and principal due on bonded debt and sinking funds, itimizing and
classifying the several branches of expenditure as nearly as may be with a statement
of the entire revenue of the City for the preious year.

Voted on motion of Steunenberg that the estimate as rrelared be accepted and that
the nlark be instructed to Piave the same published.
Bids for the publications for the term were ppened, from the following firms:

Idahoan Publishing Po., per line ........02.
Moved by gteunenberg that the printing be allowed to the Idahoan. The roll being called
the vote resulted.

So the motion was lost.
Voted on motion of Boone that the bid of the Neva Publishing Co., be aceepted.
Voted on motion of Steunenberg that the balance of the *later works sinking fund,
now invested in Paving Bonds be returned to the said -ater `Plorks sinking fund.
In the matter of the sunken sidewalk on six and Arthur streets,
Ackley reported that in hie roinicn the damage was not caused by leakage of City
hydrant, but was the rasult of the flood, and recommended that the damage cliLimdd
against the Cityl R.Farrar be not allowed.
Voted on motion of Steunenberg that the report be accepted.
In the matter of the City Parka, Parker stated tkat the Park Committee was having
the weeds cut in the parks and that it was the intention of the committee to put

were going to consult with the Idaho Traction Company officials and endever to have
a five cent fare established between the City and Curtis Park.
Voted on motion of Parker that the street Coninissioner be authorized to bublish
a statement to the affect that all weeds must be cut on streets and alleys of the
City and if not cut by the U_Y Vhe. property owners by .rune 30th, same would be
done by the city at tie expense of property owners.
The Mayor stated that it was desired to have tvionty first street opened, from
Arthur to Chicago.
Voted on motion of eteunenberg that if the Street Commissioner could get the
premission of the property owners, to proceed to open same.
s,r.A.F.Gipson appeared stating that the ditch in on south Kimball streetlin front
of his orchard was in very bad shape and was washing out the street.
Voted on motion of Steunenberg that the matter be refered to the street Commissioner
and Pity Attorney to investigate and have the repars made by the rroper parties.
Mr. nipson atatedfurther that a petition had been pfesented to the City runcil years
ago petitioning the coucil to change the name of Sobth Kimball street to Frutland
avenue, and that tLe petition had been signed by every resident on said street.
*oted on motion of Parker! that the matter be referred to the Street Committee to
investigate and report, — ..
The City Attorney reported that he had interviewed the Idaho By. Light and Power Co.,
in regard to installing the additional arck lights as per their contract of recent
date and that he had been informed that said lights would be installed as soon as the
material could be shipped from the east. He also stated that he had written to Mr. �
Crothers in regard to the back taxes due the city, asking him to appear before the
city council to night and state his position in regard to the matter, but that no
reply had been received.
Voted on motion of Parker that the City Attorney , proceed to collect the back taxes
from Er. Crothers and his bondsmen and if necessary to bring suit,
Mr. Parker stated that he had received complaints that a number of people in the sewer
district had failed to connect with the sower.
Voted on the motion of Steunenberg that the .,rater Committee be instructed to order
owners of property in the sewer district not connected with the sewer to connect at one
Parker reported that Mr. Hayden of the Library board was pushing the Carnegie Library
matter in a very able manner and that the prospects look good for securing the Library.
The Mayor stated that Mr. Rogers, who owned property in Block 28 was putting in a fifty
Moot sidewalk and curb and that he had requested the Council to require the other prop-
erty owners in said block to do likewise.
The City Clerk was instructed to find out whether or not the sidewalk had been ordered
in said block and report at the next meeting.
The Street Commissioner reported that the street i3y the fair grounds had been left in
bad shape by the Idaho By. Light and Power Co.,after putting in their track, and that
he thought it would cost 9 150.00, to repair the same and that Mr. Clark a represent-
ative of said company stated that the company would be willing to stand their share
Of the expense of repairing the street.
Voted on motion of Boone that the Council extend to Mies. Wood a vote of thanks for
her excellent services as City Librarian.
Voted on motion of Boone that the council adjourn until Monday evening July 7th.,
at B o'clock .
