Boyes presiding, Councilmen Ackley, Dement, Forbes, Harrington, Hayman and Lilly, present S. Ben Dunlap, Clerk, when the following business was transacteds The following Surety bonds were presentede Bond of Guy C. Me Gee in the sum of $2,500.00, as City Engineer and bond of Frank L. Rogge in the aum of $1,000.00, as Secretary- Treasurer Superintendent of Water Works. Both in the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company. It was voted upon motion of Dement that the bonds be accepted and appruved. It was voted upon motion of Forbes, seconded Harrington, that the action of the Council Monday night, appropriating $200.00 for the Liberty Bell be cancelled, and that the City pay $100.00 toward the expenses of the occasion. Hayman explained that he voted against the motion, believing that the same was out of order, and the appropriation to be illegal. It was voted upon motion of Harrington that the Mater department be authorized tu purchase a rubber stamp to be used on checks received by them, making the cheoh a receipt for water rentals. Hayman Stated that the water department needed some new ledger leaves at an expense of about $.35.00. It was voted upon motion of Ackley that the matter be referred to the water committee with power to act. Fire Superintendent Sovereign recommended that the City purchase four inner linings to be used in the auto tires. He stated that the cost would be about $48.00. It was voted upon motion of Ackley that the Superintendent be authorized and instructed to purchase the linings as recommended. A motion was made by Forbes, seconded Lilly, that the City Clark be authorized to advertise for bids on a car of corrugated pipe, for street culvert purposes, advertisement to state that sizes would be furnished on application to the Engineer. Bids to be opened June 25th., 1915. Advertleement to be inserted three times. Mutiun carried. The Chief of Police was instructed to order residences in the residence districts, not connected :with the sewers, to be connected with the same, and he was also instructed to have the corrals in the City cleaned. Dement took up tLe matter of the sewer in the north part of town, stating that the same was inefficient and useless fur the purpose for which it was intended, and he expressed a desire that the City would do something to relieve the people who had been compelled to pay for the same. I I� It was voted upon motion of Ackley that the matter be referred to the City Engineer and City Attorney for investigation and report at the next meeting. 538 r L f It was voted upon motion of Forbes that the Street Commissioner be authorized to purchase from the Caldwell Lumber and Coal Company two barrels of bitumen and one malting pot, the expense not to exceed $25.00. It was voted upon motion of Dement that the Mayor and Council constitute a Committee to inspect Sewer Lateral No. 4. Dement recommended that some ditches be made in the parks so that the trees could be watered. He was instructed to have the matter attended to, A motion was made by Forbes, seconded Lilly, that the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bide fur the construction of concrete sidewalks, per sq, ft., under plan 3 of Ordinance No. 148 and amendments thereto, curbs per lineal foot, crosswalks per lineal foot and dirt fills and cute per cu yd., as per ordinance No. 146 and amendments. Bids to be marked proposals for concrete work for City of Caldwell for one year from date of bid. Each proposal must be accompanied by a certified check on a Caldwell Bank in the sum of $500.00 as a guarantee that the bidder will, if successful, execute A furnish a satisfactory bond within ten days from date of opening of bids for faithful performance of Contract and maintenance of work specified for a period of five years from date of contract, Bide to be opened June 25th at 6 p. m. The Council reserves the right to reject any and all bide. Mution carried. The City Engineer submitted a report, recommending the construction and repair of concrete walks, curbs and crossings in certain specified portions of the City. It was voted up„n motion of Dement that the report be accepted. The City Engineer recommended the adoption of a new set of standard specifications for concrete walks, curbs, alley and street crossings, which were read by the Clerk. It was voted upon motion of Furbes that the City Attorney be instructed to draft a resolution, ordering in concrete sidewalks as per the Engineer's report. It was voted upon motion of Forbes that the City Attorney be instructed to ;draft and ordinance to amend Ordinance No. 148 as amended by Ordinance No. 214, to conform to the concrete specifications as presented by the City Engineer. It was voted upon motion of Hayman that the City Clerk be instructed to publish the recapitulation on page 7 of his annual report for the fiscal year 1914 -15 arrroved by the Council June 7th, and that the publication include a notice to the effect that a detailed report is on file and open for inspection in the office of the City Clerk. The City Engineer stated that he needed some chains and rode. It was voted upon motion of Forbes that Council adjorn until Tuesday evening June 10th at 6 p. m. Attests A � Cit Clerk. cry � O Mayur.
