Councilman .,ard made mention of the request of the Continental Oil Company,
that the City approve a location for the installation of oil tanks.
It was sugr±ested that the City Clerk make a report as to the condition of
the current expense funds.
It was voted on motion of Ward, that Counc 1 a
M8yor of the City of Caldwell, 'Idaho.

Council
meet in regular session, nith i.Iayor E. II. Plowhead presiding, present
Councilman Dickens, Fritz B. Miller, Mitchell and Sanberg, City Clerk S. Ben Dunlap, and
City Attorney, T. S. Jackson, when the following business was transacted;
The minutes of the sessions held ;;lay 7th and 14th respectively, vuorc read and
approved.
Councilman Amos J. Miller arrived during the reading of the minutes.
Dr. F. LI. c'ole and F. Iil. Breshears representing* the school board and
Commercial .flub appeared and stated that they had beon delegated by the =tub to request
the City 'ouncil to join with the Uchool Board in employing a man to direct the boys and
girls of the amity in garden work. They stated that the School Board had retained the
services of Director of Agriculture of the i:igh :school for a period of two and one -half
or three months at a salary of ;;100.00 p =,r month and they requested that the council bear

one -half of the expense of his salary. The matter rec referred to the Park Committee.

Mon. halter Griffiths appeared and requested that the City take steps to drain
Joliet Street between Fifth Avenue cad Itinth Avenue. IIe sug,_;ested a eix inch tile drain,
and that the cost be divided equally between the City and the ovaers of the property
abutting the street to be drained. He volunteered to securo the agrooment of the property
owners to this effect.
City 7,nginoer Shopperd stated that he estimated the cost to be about 4350.00
for a six inch tile drain four feet deep.
It was voted on motion of Jouncilman Iitchell that the matter be referred to
the Street Committee and City Lngineer for investigation and report.
LLr. 7illiam Bills, rerreeenting the onttnental Oil Company appeared and
requested the Council to approve lots 6 to 13 inclusive of Bloclr 1 -'app's Addition as
a location for gasoline and all tanks.
Councilman Amos J. 1•Iiller suggested that there vue considerable objection to
the location of the tanks in this section and that a nother location could be choosen which
would meet with more general satisfaction nmoung the citizens.

Special committee to investigate the matter and report at the next meeting.
The !layer appointed Councilmen Amos J. Liiller, Die ?;ens, Mitchell and City
Engineer Sheppard.
Straat Commis53ioner Campbell stated that the Pienear culvert on Thirteenth St.
between Dearborn and Cleveland was in bad condition and should be immediately repaired.
The Clerk was instructed to notify the Ditch Company to fix the same.
City tngineer Sheppard stated that a similar condition existed on Galveston
Street adjoining the Bischoff property. The matter was referred to the wtreet Com'r.
and City i:ngin_cr for report.
The reports of the following officers for the moat,, of ;Jay, 1917, were read.
Saxton, hief of 2olice and Superinteadont of Streets. The reports of the City Olerk,
Police Judge, Superi.,tendant of 'dater .arks and City Treasurer for the period of time from
h1ay 8th., 1917 to ;day 31st., 1917 inclusive and the semi - annual report of the mire Chief
for the term ending liay 7th., 1917, were also read.
It was voted on motion of 2ouncilman Dickens thc_t the reports be approved
and ordered placed on file.
The following claims against the City were read. It was voted on motion of
Councilman Sanberg that the same be allowed and t ;,at the City lark be and hereby is
instructed to draw warrants on the various funds in payment of the same as follows;

The bill of J. -I. i.icDnniels and J. E. Shaver in the sum of 13.60,
re- imbursement for bridge constructed in alley between Denver and Chioago Streets, west
of Seventh Avenue was read and referred to the Street Commissioner for recommendation.
Upon motion of Councilman Fritz i. :.filler the chief of the Fire Department
was authorized to purchase a racor book for hip department at an estimated cost of
el2.00.
Councilman Hitch-11 stated that LD:2 . C. C. Smith had requested that the City
open 11th Avenue between Albany and ,'.Lain Streets.

Upon motion of Jouncilman Dickens the matter was referred to the :_treet
Petition of Dorman land 'ompany and Caldwell Trust Company, under date of
June 2nd., 1917, for vacation of lots and hlleys in Blocks numbered 51, 53, 58, 59 and
83 in Mountain View .lddition to the City of Caldwell, was read. The same was reforred to
the Street Committee, ;ity ingineer and City Attorney.
The bond of Xm. F. Schnabel principal, United Mates Videlity and Guranty
Company, as surety, in the sum of ;;500.00, was presented and referred to the City
Attorney.
The City Attorney approved the form of the bond and the same was accepted by
the City :ouncil and ordered placed on file.
The I:Iayor stated that I.irs. [ . Hiller lia.d made complaint of the bad condition
of sidewalk on south side of ;hicago Street abutting Bloc` 3 Original Townsite. The
matter was referred to the City Engineer.
The Llayor stated th.�.t the local chapter D. ii. had requested that June 14th
1917, be observed as Flag Day in this City, that a patriotic program had been outlined
by the organization and that it, was planned to present the city with a large American
Flag and that the City hed been requested to provide a suitable flag pole for the same.
It was voted on motion of Councilman Litchell that the matter be referred to
the Mayor with power to act.
The Clerk reported that the following had filed official oaths of office:

be confirmed. The question being put, the Idayor declared the motion carried and the
appointment confirmed.
CITY ATTORNEY Thomas E. Buchner. A motion was made by 'Councilman limos
J. Miller, that the appointment be confirmed. No second appeared to-the motion.
The Mayor suggested that the office of Jity Pyhsician be abolished. Action
on the suggestion was deferred until,a later date.
1 motion was made by �;ouacilman Fritz ::. Idiller and duly seconded, that
Council ad,jorn until Uanday evening June 18th:, 1917, at 8 o'clock P. Li. The question
being put, the Mayor declared the motion carried and the meeting actjorned.

current expense funds of Jity of Cza dti °ell, as effected by expenditures and recaipts
for the fiscal year, 1916 -17, showing that on Lay 8th., 1917, assets applicable to
payment of outstanding warrant indebtedness exceeded said indebtedness by the sum
Of 41,981.19.
