In regard to the extension of the water mains from 5th and Denver Street,the Water Comm issioner reported that He estimated the cost of material for such extension to be about $160.00,and that it was impossible to give an estimate of the cost of labor,owing to the condition of the ground;And that only two property owners in the two blocks of the proposed extension had I NeIR signified thisr willingness to install the City water,action in the matter was delayed until a future meeting. The fire commitee recommended paying the night auto driver a salary of $25.00 per month,and that in addition He be allowed regular days wages for any work which He performed in the Water Worke,Street or other departmente.The report of the commitse was accepted. t In the matter of creating a sewer district in blocks 80 & original Townsite the City Engineer was instructed to prepare pler�a and specifications of the proposed district and to report at the next meeting. Mr W,H,Redway appeared and stated that the City,in the year 1910 had compelled him to build sidewalks around his property,blocke 8 and 11 Washington Heights Addition,and He asked the City to Construct cement crosswalk$ on the alley and street crossings to connect with said sidewalke.It was voted upon motion of Steunenberg that the matter be referred to the Street Committee. Councilman Adams arrives. Mr Frank iduter appeared and stated that He had received notice to connect his property in block 48 original townsite with the sewer;That he had made application to the Water Superintendent for City Water,and had been informed that owing to the distance from his property to the main that in addition to the regular fee he would have to pay for the excess amount of pipe used,He stated that in view of the fact that he was compelled to connect with the sewer He thought that the City should install the water at the regular price It was voted upon motion of Boone that the matter be referred to the Water Committee. 455 Councilman Harrington arrives. A communication from A.W,Bennott and Son,dated at Caldwell,May 2,1914, a"- and asking to be released on bond given the City Licensed Plumbere,was read.It was voted upon motion of Adams that the request be granted. It wits voted upon motion of Boone that the City Treasurer be instructed to make the following transfers as required by law;From General Fund $1,603.58 toWarrant Rademption Fund,from Cemetery Fund $245.94 to the Warrant Redemption Fund. The corrected report of the City Treasurer for the month of April, 1914 was read. The following communication was read; Caldwell,Idaho,May 18,1914. To the Honorable Mayor and City Council of the City of Caldwell. Gentlemen; The following named members of the Fire Department make application for Veteran Certificates and Badges. Chas M.Allen joined 1901,Abe Walradt joined 1900. Reeptfully Submitted, (signed) George Humri.ckhouse,Secy. It was voted upon motion of Stsunenberg that the City Clerk be Instructed to procure the certificates ant badges. Mr C.M.Nickle appeared and naked that the City attend to flushing the dead and on the water main near his residence. It was voted upon motion of Stounenberg that the matter be referred to the fire committos. The matter of increasing the efficiency of the fire department was taken up and it was decided that the beat results could be obtained by placing the Chief on a salary so as to enable him to give his time to the details of the murk. It was vs.ei upon motion of Ackley that the Fire Chief be paid a monthly salary of $50.00 dating from the first of the current month, h Councilman Adams stated that the Fire Committee had employed a new night man as driver for the chemical at a salary of $25.00 per month,and that he was to be given work by the road and water departments during the day,for which he was to receive the regular days aye wages paid by those departments, the report was approved. The following ,set of Rules pertaining to the Fire Pepartment,waa read,and upon motion of Harrington was adopted= 1. It shall be the duty of tho Chief to make knuwn,or present to the Fire Committee all requests,complaints or other business of the Fire Department which must come before the Fire Committee. 3. We believe that the inspection of Fire Hydrants should be the duty of the Chief,and the location of new hydrants should be consulted with She Chief.
