adjournment with Mayor Turner *presiding and Councilmen Ackley , Adams ,Boone, Parker,
present, S.B.Dunlap, clerk, when the following business was transacted.
The mayor announced the appointment of D.D.Campbellto be chief of police for
the full term of two years. The roll being called the vote reeultedi
Ayes - Ackley,Adams,Boone,Parker - 4
Nays - none.
Absent - Harrington, Steunenberg - 2.

The mayor announced the appointment of Robert Cavin to be policemen (night man ) for
tie full term of two years. The roll being called the vote resulted=
Ayes - Ackley, Adams, Poona, Parker- 4.
Nays - none
Absent - Barrington, Steunenberg - 2,
So the appointment was confirmed,
The mayor announced the appointment of Swain Beaty to be superintendent of water
works for the full term of two years. The roll being called , the vote resulted:
Ayes - Ackley, Adams, Poona, Parker - 4.
Nays - none,
Absent - Harrington, Steunenberg- 2.
So the appointment was confirmed.
The mayor stated that he would delay the appointment of street commissioner
until next meeting night when all the councilmen would be present.
:he mayor announced the appointment of Alfred F. Stone to be city attorney
for the full term of two years. The roll being called , the vote resulted:
Ayes - Ackley, Adams, poone , - 3.
Nays- Parker- I.
Absent - Harrington, Steunenberg- 2.
So the appointment was not confirmed.
The mayor announced the appointment of John W. Rose to be sexton of the cemetry for
the full term of two years. The roll being called the vote resulted
Ayes - Ackley, Adams, Boone, Parker- 4.
Nays- none.
Absent- Harrington, Steunenberg- 2.
So,the appointment was confirmed.
Adams nominated W.E.Parker and Mrs. C.A.Philpot to fill vacancies on tho lib -
raty board. The mayor suggested the names of Curtis Hayden and Dr.F.M.Cole.
By agreement the matter was laid over until next meeting night.
The bond of Ahe First National Bank, as city depositol;y, in the amount of
$I5,000, was read. Voted on motion of Adams, that the bond be accepted.

The bond of the ''Western National Bank, as city depository, in the amount of
$15,000, was read, Voted, on motion of Parker, that the bond be accepted.
The bond of the Caldwell Commercial Bank, in the amount of $12p500, as city
depository, was read. Voted, on motion of Adams, that the bond be accepted.
The bond of the American National Bank, as city depository, in the amount of
$20,000, was read. Voted on motion of Boone that the bond be accepted.
S.D.Simpson stated that as the new bond of Americal National Bamk had been
accepted, he would like to have the city clerk instructed to return to the
American National Bank the surety bond of said bank now held by the city.
Voted, on motion of Boone, that the surety bond of the American National Bank
be returned to them.
The surety bond of Samuel B,Dunlap,city clerk and ex- officio police jiudge in
the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Co., in the amount of 03,000, was read.
Voted, on motion of Adams that the bond be accepted.
The surety bond of Ethelwyn A.Fortner, city treasurer,in tLe National Surety CO.
in the amount of 410,000, was read. Voted, on motion of Boonethat the bond be
accepted.
The surety bond ofrD.D.Campbell chief of police, in the United States Fidelity
and Guaranty Co., in the amount of $1,000, was read. Voted, on motion of Parker,
that the bond be accepted.
The mayor stated that his attention had been called to the fact that a building
of combustible material was being eracted adjoining one of the business houses.
The matter was reffered to the fire and building committee for investigation.
Voted, on motion of Adams, tLat the council adjourn until Monday evening
