Council meet in special session, pursuant to call issued by the Uayor, with Mayor F. L. Lilly presiding, present, Councilmen Dickens, Amos J. Lliller, F. R. killer, Mitchell, Senberg and yard, City Clerk, S. Ben Dunlap, when the following business was transacted: Call for meeting. The call for the meeting was read as follows: S. Ben Dunlap, City Jlerk, Caldwell, Idaho. Caldwell,Idaho -Feby 11,1918. Dear Sir: This is to advise you that I hereby call a special meeting of the City Council of the City of Caldwell to be convened at the City Hall, in the regular council chamber, on the 13th day of February, 1918, at the hour of eight o'clock P. _d. The purposes of this meeting shall be to fill such vacancies as have ocoured and may occur in the City offices, to reorganize the City Administration and to appoint election officials for the special municipal elections to be held in this City on the 26th day of Uarch, 1918, and to designate polling places therefor. The resignation of Honorable '`dalter Griffiths as eity Attorney, under date February 9th., 1918, was read. It was voted on motion of Oouncilman Gard, seconded Councilman P. a. Schnabel, as Chief of Police under date February 10th., 1916, together with his final report under date February 13th., 1918, ware read. It was voted on motion of Councilman 141tchell, seconded Councilman Dickens, L that the resignation be accepted and that the report be approved and ordered placed on -file. Committee and resolutions services of .:ity Officials, resi7ned. It was voted upon motion of councilman F. F.. Miller, that the Mayor appoint a committee to draft resolutions expressing the appreciation of the Uayor and Council for the services rendered by City Attorney Griffiths and Chief of Police :4m. F. Schnabei, during their terms of office,. The Mayor appointed counollmon F. hiller and Fred Kitchell, which committee retired, prepared and introduced the following resolution. 239. HE �JOLUYIOid. Schnabel, have, for reasons of their own, s :en fit to ask to be relieved from the duties of their offices and have tendered their resignations as o£fioials of the City of Caldwell, and WHEREAS, Their resignations have been duly a;cepted by this body, to take effect upon the a' pointment and qualifications of their successors, NOW.:TH EFORE, Be it resolved by the Mayor and City Council that this body extend to these mentlemen its hearty appre4iatioa and thanks for their valuable and unselfish services to the Jity of Cald- well as such Aty officials. Grant 'Cdard, announced that at the unanimous request of the council he presented the resignations of the various councilmen on the several standing committees of the City Council, in order that the Llayor might be free to reorganize the council. The Mayor announced the acceptance of the resignations and expressed his thanks to the members of the Council for their consideration in the matter. Office of Fight Joliceman dei:luzed vacant. The Mayor declared the office of night policeman to be vacant. It was voted upon motion of Councilman Dickens, seconded Oouncilman Amos J. 1s111er, that the action of the - ayor in vacating the office of night policeman be confirmed, ratified and approved. Appointment and confirmation John A. Baker, Chief of 2olice. The iiayor announced the appointment of John A. Baker to the office of Chief of Police of Caldwell, Idaho, 'to. fill the unexpired term of Vim. F.. Schnabel. A motion was made by Councilman F. R. Lliller, seconded Councilman Die'ens, that the appointment be confirmed, ratified and approved. The roll being called on the motion, the vote resulted: Ayes - Dickens, Amos J. Miller. F. n. Uiller, Mitchell, 5anberg, 'lard - Rayes and Absent- 1lons. The '"ayor declared the motion carried and the appointment confirmed.. Appointment an d confirmation Thos. H. Dryden, Night Policaman. The ] Mayor announced the appointment of Thos. H. Dryden to the office of Night Policeman of Caldwell, Idaho, to fill _the. unexpired term of Wm. Riley. _ . A motion was made by Councilman F. it. Miller. seconded Councilman Dickens, that the appointment, be confirmed, ratified and approved. The roll being called on the motion, the vote resulted: '1 1 I Ayes - Dickens, Amos J. The Mayor announced the appointment of Curtis Haydon, to the office of City Attorney of Caldwell, Idaho, to fill the unexpired term of Walter .Gz;Iffiths. A motion was made by Councilman F. R. filler, seconded Councilman Dickens, that the appointment be confirmed, ratified _nd approved. The roll being called on the motion, the vote resulted: Ayes- Dickens, Amos J. Uiller, F. R. ]Miller, Mitchell, Sanberg, Ward -6. Nayes and absent -None. The Mayor announced the motion carried and the appointment confirmed. Upon motion of Councilman 14itohell, seconded Councilman Sanberg, the following election officers and polling places were selected for the special elections to be held in this City on the 26th day of Idairch, 1916. FIRST WARD- Judges, Chas. A. Oakee, 11. J. Devere, Fred Grete; Distributing Clerk, Mrs. Chas Sanberg; Polling place, Court house. SECOND WARD Judges; J. F. D. Williamson, Mrs. Y. K. ],Sadden, Mrs. Paul Kelly; Distributing Clerk, Mrs. Henry Zeh; Polling place, Methodist Church. THIRD 'uJA.zD- Judges; Y. C. Postlethwaite, Mra. S. a. Moe, Mrs. L. F.
