Gowen, presiding and Councilmen Elmer A. Clark, M. J. Devers, R. Farrar, J. G. Gartin, I. TI. Paynter present. C. J.. Shorb, Clerk, when the following business was transacted: Resignation of Jas. H. Gipson, 000neilman of the Third Ward was read and a mo- tion was amde by Gartin that the same be accepted. The roll being called on the motion the vote resulted: Ayes -- Clark, Devers, Farrar, Gartin, Paynter--5. Nays - -0. Absent-- Gipsom. so the motion prevailed. The Mayor appointed James Harris councilman for the Third Ward to fill the un- expired term of Jae. H. Gipson, resigned. A Notion was made by Clark that the appoint- ment be confitmed. The roll being called on the motion, the vote resulted: Ayes -- Clark, Devers, Farrar, Gartin, Paynter - -5. Nays and Absent - -0. So the appointment was confirmed. Voted, on motion of Clark, that council adjourn until Wednesday evening, Fab - ruary 9, 1910, at 7130 P. m, Wednesday, February 9, 1910. Council met in regular session pursuant to ad- journment with president of the Council Clark presiding, and Councilmen Devers, Farrar, Gartin, Payritar present; Shorb, Clerk, James Harris qualified as Councilman for the Third Ward and took his seat. Minutes of the regular and adjourned meetings in January were read and approved L. R. Clough appeared and made verbal petition for extension of main to Hazel- wood. Creamery and for a better rate on water. The matter was referred to the Water committee. Mr. McGee appeared and addressed the council relative to cement sidewalk +icon - tracts , stating that he had completed some of the sidewalks advertised and had contrac' for several others and wanted to know what effect the contracts let by the city would have on his contracts. Mr. McGee was asxed to file a statement with the City Clerk showing what sidewalks he had laid and the contracts he had for sidewalks. The following reports were read and on motion of Devers accepted and ardeaed f filed: Sanitary Inspector, City Clerk, Treasurer, Street Commisioner, C},ief of Police, Sexton, Litrarian, Chief of Fire Department, Superintendent of Water Works. Petition of the Ladies of the Forward Club praying the city council to pass an ordinance requiring that at least two members of the Library Committee be appointed from members of the rorward Club, selected by the members of the Forward Club, was read. Voted, on rr.o�slon of Farrar, that the petition be laid on the table. for [�� I 9
