HomeMy WebLinkAboutLauraShannon_Ambrosa_SupportDear Mayor and City Councilmembers:
If Council determines the community can accommodate more housing approvals, in spite of
public safety and infrastructure challenges, I do support the updated version of Ambrosia
Subdivision, which will be heard by Council this evening, July 20,2026.
After attending several mandated developer-neighborhood meetings, every one of which was a
minimal, check-it-off-the-list kind of experience, the meeting with Travis Stroud was different. He
sat with roughly 25 Cumberland residents, made us feel heard and respected in the process,
and even invited a couple of us to join him at the mediation meeting with the city.
Although many in the neighborhood hate to lose commercial land in the area, Travis helped
some of us understand how the current proposal could be beneficial to both neighbor and
developer. I do wish more commercial were proposed, but nearly half of the property is slated
for that purpose, and the proposal also includes nearly an acre of open space. Additionally, it is
a plus that Travis lives in the valley, and he plans to be involved in the commercial portions of
Ambrosia going forward. He pointed out that his commercial properties will be serving
Cumberland and the greater community, and that gives him motivation to be a good neighbor!
We asked for height-limited homes along the Cumberland property line, and he agreed, adding
that houses with bonus rooms would be limited to north facing windows. He has also offered
slightly larger lots throughout. I want to thank the Council for requiring that transitional buffer
when Ambrosia was heard previously.
Finally, Travis pointed us toward quality homes he has built, and I hope he follows through in
building these houses himself. But, he has indicated a willingness to subject Ambrosia to a DA
which, with Council’s support, will run with the land if the residential portion is ever sold. And, if
for any reason the DA were terminated, he tells us the land will revert back to its current
commercial status until further Council action.
Subject to a binding DA with the conditions Travis Stroud has committed to, I am in support of
the approval of the proposed Ambrosia Subdivision.
Thank you!
