Subject: Public Input Regarding Logan Meadows - CASE NO(s): PUD25-000003
The proposed Logan Meadows development is in the Caldwell School District, and it appears that it will likely
house families with kids, thereby impacting our district, our schools, and our community.
The proposed development is zoned for Wilson Elementary, Jefferson Middle School (5th-6th), Syringa Middle
School (7TH-8TH), and Caldwell High School. Logan Meadows is proposed to include 46 housing units in
mostly 4-plex formats. Our district does have the capacity to serve the number of school-age children who
would likely live in this subdivision. However, we would appreciate ongoing updates so that we can adjust
staffing plans, school zones, and transportation.
Although this development is within the 1.5 mile walking zone for Wilson Elementary, there are no safe routes
to school. Sidewalks are inconsistent, even along Logan St. Therefore, the district would likely need to plan to
bus students to all schools.
We consistently seek opportunities to create housing for families with kids as well as high quality employment
opportunities for the families in Caldwell. It is important to create great locations for kids and families to spend
time outside their own homes (parks, recreation centers, gathering places, etc). Considering those priorities,
this proposed development does create housing that would likely serve families with kids. Additionally, this
development adds to the center of the city, filling an underutilized area, thereby slowing down sprawl.
While this additional housing inventory is welcome, we do encourage planners and developers to look for
opportunities in this area for public spaces that would benefit kids and families. We also encourage
opportunities to add grocery stores to this area. If this is approved, then this would place 110 new housing
units in that area along Logan (Starpointe on Logan is actively building just N of Logan St with 64 housing
units).
Thanks for continuing to seek opportunities for the kids and families in Caldwell. Feel free to reach out if we
can help with more information.
