Re: proposed change to the property on the southwest corner of
Ustick Road and Kimball.
To Whom It May Concern,
We are writing in opposition to a proposed change in the
planned use of the property that is on the south side of Ustick
Road and west of Kimball, near our home in the Cumberland
subdivision. We have been watching closely all development of
that parcel and the parcel adjoining it to the east. These
parcels are zoned business and we look forward to having them
developed for business uses because we believe that it will
support the residential growth of this part of Caldwell.
Unfortunately, there is a new proposal to change part of
the parcel that we are writing about. The new proposal would
replace a significant portion of the property that is currently
planned for business development with high density
residential development instead. We believe that this change
would not be in the best interest of the City of Caldwell and
would be harmful to the economy of our part of the city. It is
important to have business development on major routes in
various parts of our city. This promotes the safety and general
welfare of our neighborhoods because it provides easy access to
a range of businesses including stores, restaurants, and
various business services within easy distance from our homes.
It reduces overall congestion as it allows shorter commutes for
many of the needs all of us have.
On the other hand, approving the change will tend to
create an undue concentration of the population of Caldwell in
ways that create additional congestion, overall trip length to
access businesses, and cause resultant harm to the
environment we all enjoy in our city.
While we are supportive of the continued growth of our
city, we believe that the current business zoning of the parcel
is very important so that our growth serves the interests of all
of us. We urge you to reject the proposed change to the plan for
the parcel.
Sincerely,
James & Kim Rice
