My husband and I are residents in the Cumberland Estates Subdivision, 4600 Yellow Creek Place, Caldwell, ID. I am writing to oppose the request to change the approved R-1 low density residential units and the C-1 commercial lots along Ustick to high density residential units. If this change is made, it will negatively affect the residents of our subdivision and the town of Caldwell. We desperately need to preserve the commercial lots to bring more business to Caldwell. We do not have enough stores, restaurants, coffee shops, hair salons, auto care, and other needed services in this local area. We are forced to drive to Nampa, Meridian, or Boise to get services we need. We would like to make Caldwell a thriving community with businesses of its own. Having to drive out of town to meet simple needs is a burden, both financially and socially. Services are miles away costing us money for gas and causing wear-and-tear on our vehicles. We desire to have local places to gather together with friends and family and to financially support those living here in our neighborhood communities. Please consider how desperately we need local businesses. Another concern is the traffic this plan for high density housing will create. We already have trouble navigating the current traffic. A high density development will make this problem even worse. It will create congestion and poor air quality due to the increased number of vehicles each of these homes will have. Please consider that the streets in this area were not built to withstand the level of traffic this increase will create. This plan will make our streets less safe for the local residents. An increase as large as this will also require a greater need for first responders, namely fire and police. We cannot withstand this great of an increase in population in an already condensed area. High density housing is known to bring more crime. Our police are not staffed to support an increase such as this. A request for a new fire station has already been on the ballot, even without the increased population high density housing will create. Our first responders cannot effectively serve the increased population this plan will create. I am asking you to please stay with the current plan for single family housing and the planned commercial properties. We desperately want to be able to keep our business here in Caldwell and have a thriving community where we are not required to go to neighboring towns to meet our needs. Help keep our neighborhoods safe. Allow us to support businesses where we can gather in the town where we have built our homes. Let us create more business in Caldwell so we can financially invest right here in our home town. Please do not approve the request for high density residential units. I plead with you to maintain the plan for single family housing and the planned commercial properties. Thank you for your time and consideration.
