The Farmway Crossing proposal is in the Caldwell School District,and it appears that it will house a
number of families with kids,thereby impacting our district,our schools,and our community.The
proposed development is currently zoned for Lewis and Clark Elementary School (K-4),Jefferson Middle
School (5th-6th),Syringa Middle School (7th-8th),and Caldwell High School (9th-12th).The
development is proposed to include 115 single family homes.
We do,currently,have the capacity to serve the number of school-age children who would likely live in
this development,although it is hard to estimate the number of kids in school.One might reasonably
estimate the neighborhood might include 75 to 150 school age children.If this plan moves forward,we
would appreciate ongoing updates from the developer,so that we can adjust staffing plans,and
potentially school zones.
Busing will be required for all school-age kids,as this development is far from all schools and other
resources for kids and families.We would appreciate communication about likely bus stops within the
subdivision.
While we do recognize that this proposed development will increase the supply of much needed housing
in our community,it does not meet the goal of promoting infill,and contributes to sprawl,moving
development into valuable farmland.This may not be the right time to develop housing in this area.
Additionally,this development is on the corner of a major intersection including both a major north/south
route and an east/west route.This intersection is already destined to get busier.The packet does not
appear to have a traffic study or specific plans regarding turn lanes.
While this seems like a nice neighborhood plan,we question whether this is the right time or place for this
to move forward.
