HomeMy WebLinkAboutJackie Childs Comment 2 Please include this email at the public hearing scheduled for February 20, 2024 at 6:00p.m. regarding the potential Hoshaw Subdivision. This is an email in opposition to the proposed development plan. Neither our roadways nor our schools can handle additional development to this area of Caldwell. I know there was a road study done that recommends a turning lane on Indiana and a multi-lane round-about (that has been done). However, it doesn't take into account actual usage of the roads. Has the P&Z commission and/or the developers tried to enter Indiana from Laster during the morning commute (both school and work traffic is on this road)? Even making a right hand turn can be difficult, nevermind a left. Have you been on Ustick during spring and fall soccer seasons at Brother's park? Or at all during the winter season when all lanes leading to the round-about are backed up nearly from intersection to intersection? We DO NOT need to add more traffic to the mess we're already in. Additionally, the city of Caldwell and the Planning and Zoning Commission have made it abundantly clear over the past few years that they DO NOT care about our public school systems. Yet, I'm pleading with you to please deny this development for the sake of our schools. My children attend Central Canyon Elementary and Vallivue Middle School. My daughter is in kindergarten and has 28 kids in her class. Yes 28! That is almost double the amount of a preferred class size for kindergarten. Our school is completely out of space to add more teachers because every classroom is being used. Our kids are getting less one- on-one time because of the overcrowding, our good teachers and administrators are leaving because of the political nightmares surrounding overcrowding, and still P&Z continues to approve development in our district without a second thought. It has got to slow down. Please consider denying this request for development of the Hoshaw Subdivision, or at minimum putting it on hold for a couple of years until our new elementary schools can be built. Best, Jackie Childs
