Re:ANN23-000007 SUP23-000004 Lavender Crossing
Dear Caldwell Planning and Zoning Commissioners,
One year ago on April 5th,2022,the Vallivue School District submitted a letter of concern in
regards to the Lavender Crossing Apartments proposal. In that letter,we shared that the
school district needs two elementary schools built to alleviate the overcrowding at 6 of our 7
elementary schools.
Over the past year, the situation has become more problematic.Vallivue School District gave
the community an opportunity to vote on a bond twice last year. The bond failed to meet the
supermajority of 66.67%voter approval to build the necessary schools.
If approved, the students living within the Lavender Crossing Apartments would attend
Skyway Elementary.Currently,Skyway Elementary is looking to add a third modular building
for two more portable classrooms. After that, the school will not have any more space to add
portable classrooms to absorb with growth.
If anyone takes a short drive around the attendance boundaries of Skyway Elementary, they
will see many subdivisions underconstruction and brand new homes for sell. The students
from these recently built and sold homes over the next few years will exacerbate the capacity
at Skyway Elementary.Adding the Lavender Crossing project without a bond approved by the
community will only make the effort to provide our students a quality education even more
challenging.
Redrawing the attendance boundaries is not a solution as all of Skyway’s neighboring
elementary schools are experiencing the same impact of newly approved developments.
Sincerely,
Joseph Palmer
Director
