Scott Pemble, one of three brothers heav- ily involved in the project through the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council's skate park subcommittee, said the goal was to create a unique park space that would attract beginner, in- termediate and advanced skaters. The park's official open- ing is the. culmination of three years of work in which local youth played a major part. Members of the Youth Advisory Council and others involved in the project broke ground at the park site in Sky Ranch Busi- ness Center in December. The Youth Council made planning and funding deci- sions and handled design and contracting. The total estimated cost of the project is $318,000 and it consists of 20,000 square feet — 16,000 for street -style skating and 4,000 for a 9.5-foot-deep bowl. Work is not yet com- plete at the site; landscap- ing and other improve- ments are still to come. Officials plan to place a bronze memorial at the park honoring the Pem- ble family's work on the project and to pay special tribute to David Pemble, a well-known skater in the community who died in an automobile accident in Au- gust 2006 at age 20. The family prepared this statement for the park's rib- bon cutting: "David loved spending time at the skate park not only to have fun, but to establish friendships and develop a sense of com- munity ... Our family's wish is that David's legacy, of kindness will be continued at this plaza." Nampa Mayor Garret Nancolas, left, cuts the ceremonial ribbon during the opening ceremonies for the newly construct- ed Pipe Dream Skate Park, Monday! The skate park, which has been in progress forthree years, was largely overseen by the Mayor'sYouth Advisory Council, and many of the Council's members also attended the ribbon cutting.
