The four residences in the 1100 btock of E. Hazel are set back 30feet from the property line- The residences in the block directlyeast are all set back at the 2o-foot line. Hazel is a short 2-block street. The cutierrez rs wouLd Like to construct a 5-footentryhray on the front of their residence that would extend 5 feetinto the esLablished 3O-foot setback area. Alsor concrete has
been poured for a detached garage on the Wyoning Avenue side that
encroaches 1g feet into the 2o-fool side setback area.
By applying the averaging setback rule along HazeI Street, the
entryway would fa1l in beti.seen the setbacks on both blocks. Thereis also an encroachment into the Wyoming side setback by theresidence on the corner of Ash and Wyoming. No adverse effects ofthe existing residence were noted-

In our conversation on Fridayr September 91 1988, I had some
reservations about the construction of the addition on Ehe lrest
side of the house at. 1122 Eaze1 street. since then I have found
in the UBC where it. is acceptable to use untreated Lumber if an
approved vapor barrier is used.
section 2516(c)-2 calls for treated or decay-resi.Etant lumber.
Section 2516(C)-7 states that untreated lunber may be used if an
impervious vapor barrier is installed.
Although vork on the garage and entrytray nust, be delayed until
after the Planning and Zoning Commission acts uPon the variancesrequested, you may proceed sith the addition on Ehe west side of
the residence provided compliance vrith the Uniforn Building
Code is maint,ained.
