Caldwell Youth Master Plan Comm Meeting Minutes, Thursday, April28, 2 Meeting called to order at 10:02am. APPROVAL OF PAST MINUTES: Donna Shines motioned and Tricia Lofton seconded the motion to accept the minutes from the February 24,2022 Youth Master PIan Committee meeting. MOTION PASSED special Presentation: Brenda Jones - St. Luke',s Community Health Funding Program (GHiP) We are currently in the process of finalizing 2021 dala CHNAs to ensure that hospitals have information they need to provide community benefits. What are our communities needing? . Behavioral and mental health challenges are prevalent, the desire within the community is to improve mental illness and reduce sulcide. Drug use is up because of the mental health challenges in our communities . Affordable health insurance is an issue; the grants provide funding that goes right back to the community. Working within the iuvenile system, schools, other agencies. Working with the challenges COVID presented, agencies pivoting with us to meet the challenges we could.. lnformationifeedback is crucial to forming our plans for how to build into the community in the ways most needed. The sooner we can get upstream of the issues, the sooner we can turn the focus to prevention, as well as providing safety nets. . lf you know of someone who you believe would be a candidate for a ChiP grant, please get information to Brenda. YIvIPC lvleeti nq Calendar - Debbie reported that a new ordinance was passed by City Council in lVlarch that reanalyzed public meetings for committees and board meetings. Moving forward, we will only come together on a q s and moved many to quarterly regular uarterly basis. Subcommittees may meet more often, as they are often event-driven. Committee reports: ldwell Youth Foru - Angie Point on behalf of Ron Bonneau . The Fall 2021 Caldwell Youth Forum, was once again cancelled due to COVID case counts and restrictions for outside guests at the planned venue.. Ron Bonneau and several of his ski coach contacts organized an alternate event, held on January 19,2022 at Bogus Basin. Twenty-three students and eleven staff/committee members spent the day learning how to get around on snowshoes, how to work together while exploring several snow science activities, and how to take some of the lessons learned back to school to apply to the day- to-day challenges there. After-event visits were made to the schools to gain student feedback about the day and solicit suggestions for improvement.. Current planning is to hold the annual Youth Forum at the College of ldaho in September, and we are soliciting participation from the local high schools. We will also look at continuing a winter Youth Forum at Bogus Basin next year. APP D Z Familv Fun Dav - Debbie Geyer The is an annual, outdoor, "unplugged" recreation day, designed to get kids and theirfamilies out in thegreat outdoors in some of our parks.o Held each year on Free Fishing Day, this yeai will be on June 11, 2022. Activities will include a Fishing Derby, a Color RunAy'y'alk, Chalk Art, a free hotdog lunch, and many kid-friendly activities provided by more than 35 community partners, agencies, and organizations. ' For the last several years, St. Luke's has provided a CHiP grant to help with expenses forthe event, making it possible to provide this outreach to our community. Community Youth and Family Organization Updatei: ' Donna Shines -The Mentorinq Network. Very happy to again make matches between mentors and mentees for school-based mentoring. We are serving five school districts in Canyon County, and currently have about 40 students waiting to be matched to mentors. Assista nce Leaoue -Debbie Gever a. We just finished an outreach for the community schools in the Nampa and Caldwell schooldistricts. ltems donated are for school pantries, plus schoolihygiene items for kids. Filled two cars full with items ranging from canned soup, to socks, to toothpaste.b. Baby Bundles - backpacks with supplies valued at $175 for families with newborn babies, and given out by the local hospitals. Donations of items to fill the backpacks keep coming in-what a blessing-and backpacks keep going out to grateful recipients.c. Operation School Bell - 60 selected students from three school districts met on May 14th at JC Penny's in Nampa and were given a $150 spending limit for school clothes and shoes. ._ The students and parents are very excited and thankful forthe opportunity. lf you would like more information on how to get involved with one of these outreaches, contact Debbie. Justserve is helping to start mobile youth services. The plan is to eventually have full wrap around services for youth where they are linked to the right people (rather than just a phone call). Wonderful results so far. H&W Children's Mental Health - Aoril Auker Mon-Fri community response teams are going to schools, will go to homes if asked, to help triage mental health situations for youth. Medicaidls now available for families that are above the poverty level and need mental health services. Goal is to make sure that every child has the mental health services that they need. Heading up senior produce program for food vouchers and need a bi-lingual volunteer. The meetings are on the 2nd Wednesday each month from 3-5 pm. 9aldwel Rqqreation: Denise Milburn Caldwell Recreation offers low-cost recreation opportunities andflnancial aid is available for up to 75% of the cost. Foster families may participate at no cost. Lots of fun activities all summer. New guide coming out in May. Summer reading program starts June 1. Received a grant to take mobile services to Farmway Village. New program to set up mini literacy centers in barber shops and laundromats; one such center has been set up the 'Get the Funk Out' laundromat. Unveiled new food pantry/clothing pantry, will be looking for donations. lvation Arm -M P Help with development and coordination of services and program for the Caldwell Salvation Army. Goal is to provide 700 backpacks for school kids. Services include a food pantry and hotel vouchers for families who have lost their home. Last month over 1 ,000 bed night vouchers were given out. lncentive-based program for parenting classes/life skills for neMyoung moms, dads, Grandma. lncentives: diapers, boutique baby items, formula, ect. AA FV - Tricia Lofton. AAFV is coordinating the Family Color-RunM/alk at Family Fun Day.. Family events and groups are back, as well as once a month events with dinner, resources and an activlty. Open to the community.. Now that students are back in schools, teen healthy relationships materials and discussions are also back in schools.. Girls on the Run Camp 3-5th grade at the community center, and put together a peer group with Elevate Academy.. New apartments at the AAFV site will be available by the end of the summer. Bovs and Girls Club - Melissa and Anthonv Starting registrations now for programs and camps; goal is to have 200 students sponsored this year; have about 70 right now. There will also be a 2nd location at Washington elementary in the fall - great news! Caldwell Housino A horitv - Rosario Soto Food bank boxes distributed every 3rd Thursday. Have a community center if an agency needs a place to hold meetings or events. We average about 30% under other housing costs. Building an RV park as well with rental as well as overnight rental. long term Great interactions and energy today; it is so nice to be in person again.
