Meeting Minutes, Tuesday, November 70,2020
Present: Ron Bonneau, Oster Hernandez, Chelsea Wilson, Patrick Precht, Angie Point, Daphne
Lightfoot, and Kaylee Farrell.
Meeting called to order at 10:05 am. Ron welcomed those in attendance and asked participants
to review the minutes from the September 29,2020 meeting, and to provide comment if desired.
ACflON ITEM: Angie motioned and Oster seconded the motion to approve the minutes from
September 29,2020. MOTION PASSED
Met with select subcommittee members on October 15th to construct a possible survey; a draft
suruey was generated. The purpose of the suruey is to garner student opinions on COVID issues
- especially regarding the new A/B hybrid method for attending classes. It has not yet been
decided when the best time to distribute it might be.
During a discussion about how teachers and students appear to be handling the current school
situation, Kaylee offered observations gleaned from the teachers she has been working with
recently at the Caldwell School District. She stated that most schools are hybrid, and most are
not allowing outsiders on campus. They are doing online workshops when guest speakers are
desired. All are taking the situation week-to-week, and most are finding it difficult to plan ahead.
CWI and TVCC-Caldwell are allowing high school students on campus for dual credit coursework
and other specific classes. Many are also available online. Oster has been reaching out to
schools to let them know they can do Zoom presentations and have multiple resources available.
There was some lively discussion regarding putting together a virtual youth forum, or at least a
'mini-forum': virtual dialogue and presentations/workshops in April. Suggestions included using a
more robust Zoom platform to bring virtual students together into a large viftual group, and then
splitting them up into smaller groups for the different activities/breakout sessions. Playfair has a
virtual session; Ron has contacted them for a summary of how it works, and the cost. (The
Playfair summary and video link are printed after the CYF meeting summary.)
Chelsea added that the 2CKids group may be willing to partner with CYF for Forum
presentations/workshops. Luis Granados (Director of The Breaking Chain) was suggested as a
point of contact; Chelsea will follow up. Subcommittee members could also be mentors for
specific schools on that day (pending approval by administration), to facilitate conversations and
support them in what they want to do.
Oster suggested that we add something about careers to the day-how students can move
forward after high school. Maybe bring in an industry paftner to talk about what they look for
when hiring employees. Promoting careers (some of which require college), rather than just
college. If the budget allows, and school administration approves, lunch, swag bags, and/or t-
shirts could be delivered to each school on the Forum day.
Kaylee suggested a workshop about self-care, coping mechanisms, and resiliency for youth -
possibly using bullet journals to facilitate the workshop. Chelsea suggested considering
something on mindfulness, and Daphne teaches Yoga. Links to resources, and'where to find
help'information could also be included.
Subcommittee members are tasked to do the following in the next few weeks:
1. Consider the "starting point" schedule for a 3-5 hour, viftual mini-forum in April (see
below). This is only a starting point for possibilities on what the day could look like.
2. Explore options for workshops, thoughts on speakers, presentations, desired focus/
training topics, and breakout sessions.
3. Send specific suggestions on #2, and resource ideas to Ron Bonneau before the 15th of
December (the sooner, the better).
4. Attend the January 12, 202L CYF ZOOM meeting, and be prepared to discuss the
feasibility and proposed content of a virtual mini-forum on a Wednesday in April 2021.
Meeting adjourned at 10:58.
via ZOOM Meetings.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, January 12, 202t, at 10:00am
Respectfully submitted,

PLAYFAIR ONLINE (information provided by Playfair tlllU2020)
httos://v imeo.com/418137036 The fee is $2500. Will use the Playfair Zoom account
Playfair Online is a high-spirited, high-energy event that allows the new student class to engage
with each other and laugh with each other and feel a part of an exciting new campus community
It's team building, it's comedy, and it's lots of funl Here are a few examples of the type of ac{ivities your
students will engage in during Playfair Online.
The students move through numerous mental and physical challenges as they play games that
bring them closer together. ln breakout sessions and large groups:
"Sorry I'm Late"- in a group of 4 for roughly 3 minutes in rounds: give a reason why you are late based
on a moive or film. Others in your group have to guess the answer. For example: "Sorry I'm late my
house got lifted in a tornado and landed on a witch." (Someone will yell out Wzard of O2... they all cheer)
then it switches to someone else.
"The Alphabet Game"- (also in groups of 4): Things you would find in a dorm room, alternating naming
objects by moving through the alphabet. Round one might be answered- apple computer, bowling
ball, can of coke, dictionary, etc. ln next round in new breakout rooms the subject might be "lmaginary
course titles that do not exist anywhere." For example for letter A- "Archeology and history of lego
communities,' followed by "Botany for hockey players."
Follow the Random Choreographer: dancing and "making eye contact" with someone as though you
are really in the same room and following their moves. "Spotlight" lets random students lead the dance
Switching every 15 seconds to new song and new eye contact.
lnstead of high fiving or shaking hands the large group will do other symbols ie: Jazz Hands or creative
gestures that others will follow.
Diversity POLLS - everyone plays at same time:
Let's learn something about your classmates:
1. . Are you the first person in your family to go to college? (yes, no)
5. Have you ever told your parents you were going to be one place but you actually went someplace
else? (yes, no)
How it will work: Length of program- roughly 75 minutes depending upon what your needs are
With the laroe oroup-
2.. Do you send more than 25 text messages every day? (yes, no)
3. Do you consider yourself to be an honest person? (yes, no)
4. Have you ever peed in the shower? (yes, no)
Two facilitators from our end (Playfair)- one works all the tech, puts music on, runs demo videos how to
play the game, spotlights various students, and breaks the large group into smaller breakout sessions.
The other facilitator actually is the face that everyone sees and hears (as though on stage).
