The September L2, l99L meeting Commission was called to order inby Chairman Chuck Randolph at 7:05 Historic Preservat ion Hal I Conference Room of thep.m theCity Chairman Randolph began the meeting by welcomingr new CommissionerCarol Burbank and new Councj I representative, Elaine Carpenterand provided a brief overview of the current tasks andresponsibi l ities of the Historic Preservation Commission. The first item on the agenda was the draft of the 1992 GrantProposal. Dennis reviewed the content of the proposed projectwhich included approximately one dozen historic Eite surveysalong Blaine Street and preparation of a nomination to theNational Historic Register for one historic site on Cleveland Bou l evard . Dennjs further indicated that the grant application proposal wasdiscussed in concept with the State Historic Preservation Officeand was viewed, on a preliminary basis, as a viable project. There was some discussion on the content of the gtrant propogal and a number minor changes and revisions were recolunended. Theseincluded lhe additional statement that the material will be usedin consj.dering the recormendation of a local historic districtfor the area, more flexibility for the selection ofreconnaissance level and intensive level sites and the inclusionof statement that the t$ro sites already surveyed on Blaine Streetwould not be repeated. There was also discussion of potential candidates for nominationto th€ National Historic Reqrister and the crlteria used jn preparing a successful nomination. Eight Cleveland Boulevardsites were listed. Cornrni ss i on members agreed to review the eightproperties before the next meeting dnd be prepared to narrog, thefield of candidates. Dennis also informed the Corunission thatElizabeth Egleston, State Historian, should be invited to attend one of the upcoming meetings in order to provide some expertise and jnput into the final selection. The next item of discussjon was the draft letter of appreciationwhlch is to be sent to owners of properties that were involved jn the 1991 project rrhich is to include a complimentary copy of the survey date and information. Bill Gigray fff presented the draftIetter and it was unanimously accepted by the members of the Cornrni ss i on . There was suggest i on Cormi ss i on some discussion on a few miscel Ianeous items. Onevras the possibility of a Historic Preservation Ietterhead with the train depot as the principal 1ogo. 1 fa Dennis indicated that he would fol1ow up on that item. ChairmanRandolph re-introduced the idea of informal educationalexperiences for the Commission and also the possibi l ity ofreviewing the materials, photographs and slides of past sitesurveys and projects. Also, the forthcoming R,/UDAT study wasdiscussed. Teri Ottens indicated to the Connnission members thata time has been established for the R,/UDAT leam to meet andinteract with the Historic Preservation Commission.
