The November 5, 7992 meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission was called to
order in the City Hall Conference Room by Chairman Chuck Randolph at 7:00 p.m.
The minutes of the October 8, L992, meeting were approved.
Oreson Trail
Madeline Buckendorf reported she met with Larry Jones concerning Historical Markers for
the Oregon Trail. He suggested markers for both sides of the "s1ver bridge" as well as two
signs on the freeway entrances. We need to write a request to tlte Idaho Department of
Transportation no later than July to obtain the freeway signs. There was discussion to use
the joiner cabin at the Greenbelt as an interpretive center for the Oregon Trail as well.
Madeline also discussed the planned arrival of the Wagon Train on fuly 26, 1993. there
was discussion of a possible location to put them overnight and a breakfast or dinner
function.
There will be three educational presentations on the Oregon Trail in the near future (to
be announced).
New Membens
Much discussion took places on new members for the Commission. Several names were
mentioned. It was decided that they would be contacted and their names submitted to the
Mayor for possible appointment.

Downtown Part/Plaza
The Commission has been asked to help with the historic theme proposed for the
Downtown Park. Some names of pioneer women were listed as follows:

Mrs. Boone
Kate Pheton
Mrs. dorman
Ethel Whittenberger
Georgia McFarland
Gracie Pfost
Mrs. Fiji
lt was decided "Pioneer Women" would include women through World War II. Chuck
Randolph will contact Lorene Thurston for her input.
Downtown Renovation
Teri presented the conceptual drawings for the downtown. tt needs to be tied to the
creation of the historic district, desigrr review standards, transportation, pathway
development and comprehensive planning. Discussion followed in this area.
Historic District
Discussion followed on how to set up for the December 3 meeting to inuoduce this subject
to the community. It was decided to have an informal period with displays and
refreshments, followed by a panel presentation with Don watts, SHPO; Tempra Wilson,
Boise Planning; and Rick Greenfield, Capital Development Corporation. A second meeting
is planned for February to meet with speakers from Pocatello.
Meeting adjourned at 8:27 p.m.
