CALDWELL, IDAHO 83605 TEL: (208) 455-3021 FAX 45S3000 Caldwell Depot Facing Seventh Ave. ( 1906) The Eistoric Presenration Comrnission met in the Idaho Room of the Caldwell Public Library at ?:00 P.M., January 6' 1998 Members Present: Chris Nye, Tom Ensley, Steve Maughan, and Rick WeIIs Members Absent: BilI Gigray III, Ed Allen,and Elaine Leppert Comrnunity Developrnent Staff: Bud Knickerbocker Call To Order: Chairperson Nye called the meeting to order at the Caldwell City Library, in the Idaho Room, at 7:00 p.m.. Old Business: Approval of Minutes: Chairperson Nye rntroduced a motion that the minutes be approved; Commissioner Ensley seconded the motion, and the motion passed unanimously. Grants: The commission is still waiting on the grant money to be approved. It is time to take action on the grants. Mem.bets: The commission is looking for additional members and will be contacting indiwiduals within the local school districts and Albertson College of Idaho for possible new members. They will also contact certain individuals who can possible suggest new members to the commission. Historic Preservation Commission -1- EISTORTC PRESERVATION COMMTSSTON Meeting of Idaho Room, Caldwell Public Library o o Seniors Center: The Senior Center has requested that they be allowed to modify the sidewalk in ftont of the center. They are requesting that they be allowed to increase the landscaping along the sidewalk, modify the angles of the sidewalk and create a buffer for the seniors using the center. Eventually, they intend to extend the sidewalk to both ends of the block and the commission agrees that there is no problem with this. The commission discussed how they believe the sidewalk should be redesigned and will discuss this with the Senior Center. Council Lriaison: Councilperson Rick Wells informed the commission that the new Mayor is considering assigning council members to certain projects rather than being liaisons with groups. Cornprehensive Plan: Councilperson Rick Wells reminded the commission that they need to write a letter to Bill Roos reguesting that they be allowed input on the revision of the City's Comprehensive Plan. He stated that he is concerned that if the Historic Preservation Commission does not become involved that this segment of the Plan will be removed. He has suggested that a maP outlining the Historic District be placed in the Comprehensive Plan. Discussion of Presenration f ssues: Pockel Districts: The commission discussed setting up pocket districts in the community. Pocket districts are one way to presewe certain areas of a community without declaring a large area a historic district' Commissioner Ensley noted that a downtown district had been proposed at one time, but this proposal had been withdrawn. Adjournment: The meetingrwas adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Historic Preservation Commission -2- New Business: Next Meeting: March 3, 1998.
