The agenda is scheduled as follows: 1. ROLLCALL: 2. MINUTES: A Minutes from the Meeting of December 5, 1991. 3. CALDWELL, IDAHO 83605 TEL.: (208)455-3006 FAX 455-3003 Caldweit Depot Facing S€venth Ave. (1906) MINUTES Meeting ofJanuary 9, 1992 Present: Chairman Chuck Randolph, Madeline Buckendorf, Carol Burbank, Elaine Carpenter, Tom Ensley, and Bill Gigray and recording secretary, Liz Yeary. The January 9, 1992 meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission was called to order in the City Hall Conference Room by Chairman Chuck Randolph at 7:O0 p.m. Minutes from the December 5, 1991, meeting of the Commission were approved as submitted. The Chairman began the meeting by reading a letter from Commissioner Art Honey who submitted his resignation effective January 8, 1,992. Chuck expressed his appreciation for Art's years of service and stated that a replacement would be approached and recommended to Council as soon as possible. Liz confirmed that a letter of thanks would be sent to Art immediately. The Chairman then circulated a list of CLG grants for L992. The Commission remarked on the grant made to Canyon County regarding their Comprehensive Historic Preservation Plan and Chuck agreed to meet with Glenn Koch to discuss their plans and possibly invite that organization to a future meeting. The next item on the agenda was the site selection for the 1992 grant. It was agreed to leave the ten sites as originally selected and add 321 Blaine to the Iist, making eleven sites in total and one site to be considered for National Historic Register status. The Memorandum of Agreement was also received and after signature by the Mayor, copies would be sent to all historians advertising the historic suwey with response requested by the middle of February. Madeline reported on the Oregon Trail Sesquicenterudal and that most events will start during the surnmer of 1992. Oregon has the majority of events but ldaho is trying to organize some. There are major sites around Caldwell that are marked but there are other sites which could be marked such as wagon ruts, and the route of the uail. The Commission felt its involvement could be in drawing more attention to the trail by means of highway signs, markers, brochures etc. Madeline said funding is available for such projects from Department of Tourism or some local business group. Madeline went on to conrment that she had been in touch with Larry Jones, of the tdaho State Historical Society and he is willing to give a presentation on the Oregon Trail at the next meeting in February. It was agreed to see if we can meet at the Library Community Room and invite other agencies to participate such as the Caldwell City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Canyon County Historical Society, and Canyon County Hisroric Preservation Commissioq the TRAC Committee, oral history and other Library representatives. The Bueau of Land Management (BLM) has a detailed map of the trail and Liz will ury and obtain a copy before the next meering. Chuck will contact Glenn Koch and invite the Canyon County people.
