As to be expected with use and time, plaza maintenance items must be addressed to ensure the longevity of the plaza. The expansion joint seal around the grade beam (or the ice skating surface of the plaza) has failed in may location, leaving a very undesirable situation of water getting under the concrete slabs during the freeze/thaw cycles of the Caldwell weather patterns. If unmitigated, the frost under the concrete and can cause significant damage to the concrete itself and the several thousand feet of refrigeration pipeline also under the grade beam. The Engineering Department has sought informal bids from 3 contractors to remove the existing seal and replace it with superior product. Of those three solicited, two bids were received. - B and B Caulking LLC ...... $105,000.00 - Sawtooth.........................$175,775.00 RECOMMENDED ACTION: The Engineer Department has reviewed this bids received and requests ratification of the contract service of B and B Caulking LLC as the low bidder for the amount of $105,000.00 to have this expansion joint seal replaced in Indian Creek Plaza.
